JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary responsibility of the Manufacturing Engineer is to design, implement, control and improve internal processes that manufacture and package paint (milling and filling). The Manufacturing Engineer will provide engineering support activities for the manufacturing site, which include major capital projects, equipment upgrades, equipment and tooling purchases, installations, and daily production support activities.

Here's what you can expect every day:

  • Provide engineering support activities for the manufacturing site, which include major capital projects, equipment upgrades, equipment purchases, installations, and production support activities.
  • Lead and manage multiple capital project teams, which include corporate engineers, operations personnel, safety engineers, and maintenance technicians.
  • Prepare the specification of packaging and processing equipment, solicit equipment bids, review vendor's equipment proposals, and provide technical support to enable decision making on equipment selection.
  • Develop project feasibility and alternatives, including order of magnitude cost estimate, description of capacities, rates of production, and materials of construction.
  • Provide to leadership project description, justifications, cost estimates, and planned timing of capital projects.
  • Serve as a Start-Up-Leader driving collaboration between manufacturing and engineering project teams to ensure a safe and successful vertical start-up.
  • Coordinate engineering-related contracted work, and ensure safety of practices and process.
  • Design and plan layout of equipment.
  • Ensure machine safety and adherence to policies and regulations, to ensure that all designs comply to Rust-Oleum policies as well as government regulations.
  • Investigates, drives, and assists on projects involving cost saving, process optimization, productivity improvements and replacing obsolete equipment related to existing processes.
  • Identify ways to optimize packaging and process equipment and troubleshoot equipment issues, as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise to plant operations and maintenance technicians.
  • Provide process safety stewardship in areas of operating procedures, operating/technical manuals, critical safety systems, management of change, pre-startup safety reviews, process hazards analysis, incident investigations, audits and assessments, alert compliance, operations training, alarm management, P&ID updates, and action item follow-up.

Required Experience and skills
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred. Industrial or Electrical Engineers with hands-on mechanical and chemical experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a similar role preferred.
  • Experience with high-speed packaging lines and chemical processing. Aerosol and liquid packaging preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • PSM (Process Safety Management) experience.
  • SAP, Microsoft Project
  • CAD Line Layout/Design. AutoCAD LT Preferred
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies- (Lean, 5-Why, Kaizens, PDCA, Engineering Work Processes)
  • Good process and project management, written and verbal communication skills, and a high level of initiative.
