The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Job Description
Our Vector Operations group, comprised of Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MS&T), Analytical Sciences and Technology (AS&T), and External Manufacturing (EM) teams, provides manufacturing and analytical support of basic, translational and clinical research. The MS&T team is composed of teams that conduct platform development, process development and optimization, vector manufacturing, and process technical transfer. The AS&T team conducts analytical development, quality control and assay technical transfer. The AS&T organization includes a molecular team, biochemical team, bioassay team and physical/chemical team.
Due to significant growth, the Vector Core is looking for a new Manager in the Analytics team, Biochemical group to manage testing activities including testing conducted under GxP to support IND-enabling studies and human clinical trials.
As an Analytical Manager you will manage projects, activities and/or new initiatives in either the molecular team, biochemical team, bioassay team and physical/chemical team. Examples of projects in each of the analytics teams include management of biodistribution studies in the molecular team, management of GxP testing in the biochemical team, management of automated systems in the bioassay team and management of a specific area of testing in the physical/chemical team. In addition to managing projects or initiatives, you will also conduct testing while following new or established protocols or standard operating procedures (which may be conducted under GxP conditions) and emerge as a subject matter expert in either molecular, biochemical, cell-based or physical/chemical assays. You will document your activities on test records or in a database and may be participating in the establishment of new information management systems. You will provide training for junior level staff on analytical testing methods and procedures and manage laboratory activities such as ordering and managing reagents. You will also be advising leadership on updates or corrections that need to be made to any protocols or standard operating procedures as well as you will be revising protocols and standard operating procedures as needed.
You will work both independently and as part of a team to accomplish project goals within specified timelines. Successful candidates will have a familiarity with one or more of the following: mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, molecular, biochemical, cell-based and/or physical/chemical assays. The techniques that are used across the vector analytics teams include qPCR, ddPCR, SDS-PAGE, ceSDS, Enzymatic Assays, ELISA, MSD, In-Cell Western, High Content Imaging, Analytical Ultracentrifugation, Size Exclusion Chromatography, Dynamic or Multi-Angle Light Scattering and Mass Spectrometry.
