Job Summary
The Mail Services Supervisor I supervises the work of employees providing mail, package, and gas cylinder services. Receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Works on issues of limited scope. Directs subordinates to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility.

The job will include the ability to lift 70 lbs. and withstand constant bending, standing, walking, handling objects, frequent pushing and pulling; adept at working in confined, crowded locations yet be acutely aware of moving carts/hand trucks in areas of high pedestrian traffic.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must maintain an unencumbered CA driver's license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice system
  • Must be able to read/comprehend and write, perform calculations, communicate orally, reason and analyze situations
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications
  • Adhere to departmental standards on customer service and dress code, operate a delivery vehicle and hand truck in meeting changing schedules and in handling time sensitive and/or high value items
  • Customer service savvy and able to answer questions or direct customers to other resources taken from the most recent USPS and commercial carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) regulations, University policies, and departmental guidelines and also possess processing knowledge through experience, training, or reading materials
  • Perform duties in a manner befitting a Hospital/Medical Center and research laboratory setting, fully aware of the public traffic, patient safety, high level staff/visitors
  • Must have the awareness of possible encounter with radioactive materials, chemical/biological agents, construction  activities, contact  with water/liquids gas systems, confined spaces, drive motorized equipment,  and temperature variations
  • Working interpersonal, persuasive, mentoring, and leadership skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, sound judgment, ability to multi-task effectively in a high volume environment, organizational skills and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Client service minded with an entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary to assist in or complete a task

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of mail, package, shipping, and express services operations, as well as related policy and regulatory compliance requirements from postal and other services, domestic and international
  • Memorize sorting sequences, delivery points, and mailcodes for all departments served
  • Perform all delivery routes within the allotted amount of time and the prescribed delivery sequence
  • The ability to meet productivity standards in other areas of SCM Logistics whenever assigned to a particular area

License/Certification
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Maintain an unencumbered CA driver's license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice system
