General Description:

AZZ is seeking hard working, mechanically inclined individuals who are looking for a long-term career opportunity working in an ASME Code production shop that services the Energy, Refining, Pulp & paper, and Steel producing markets. This is intended to be a temporary to full time position following a training period. Incoming personnel will be trained and certified how to operate and load automated welding equipment to apply an erosion/ corrosion weld metal overlay on the surface of boiler tubing and pipes. In addition, personnel will be trained to work from written work instructions and shop drawings to produce high quality welded products. This training will also include manual GTAW welding of temporary attachments and overlay repair. Once trained, machine operators will be expected to consistently meet performance standards, as well as maintaining compliance with project specifications and delivery requirements. Following a 2-4-week training period, the typical work schedule will be 3.5 days on & 3.5 days off, totaling 40+ hrs. per week, with opportunities to pick up additional shifts if available. Machine operators must be able to work any shift in addition to overtime, when required, and one weekend day per week as part of the 3.5 on 3.5 off shift model. All shifts are day shift. Depending on skill level and training, some potential traveling to work on field sites may be available throughout the year but is not required.

Education, Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

High school Diploma or equivalent (GED)is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Career minded individual looking to grow with an established company.
  • Basic welding knowledge is a plus - willing to train reliable, hardworking individuals on machine set-up to produce quality welds.
  • Have the ability to regularly lift 25-50 pounds up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions, work orders, and engineered drawings.
  • Must possess basic math and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must exhibit good work ethic and team skills.
  • Must work at a reasonable pace, which is measured by production efficiency, within our quality and safety standards.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work safely at all times.
  • Accurately measure (read a steel tape) and lay out locations for welds.
  • Must be able to follow written/verbal instructions, technical specifications; and operate basic metal-working hand tools (grinder, drill, band saw, torch, etc.)
  • Must demonstrate punctuality and keep excused absences to an acceptable level.

Essential Duties:

  • Operate automated panel and/or tube machines independently and proficiently with minimal re-work or scrap, while maintaining daily production goals
  • Repair defects using manual GTAW/GMAW process
  • Accurately and completely fill out necessary paperwork
  • Grinding/polishing
  • Loading/unloading of machines
  • Check and verify part numbers prior to assembly of product or application of weld metal overlay
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations
  • Required to certify under AZZ WSI's Safety and Quality Program on the following:
    • Forklift
    • Overhead crane
    • Manual GMAW & GTAW
    • Automated panel and/or tube machines
    • OSHA 10

Work Environment:

High volume production shop.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift at least 100 lbs. Employee will be regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel and crouch with bending, twisting, and some repetitive motions required.

Schedule:

Full Time. A welder/operator must be able to work day shifts including one weekend day, in addition to overtime when required. All work is day shift hours.
