Under supervision of the Loss Control Manager, and in coordination with the workers' compensation team, complete farm analysis and loss control evaluations for current and prospective workers' compensation customers through safety inspections and accident investigations. Provide loss reduction/prevention recommendations to improve overall farm safety, control source of risk, loss, and/or cost.

Location: the preferred candidate will live in the Omaha, NE area or Lincoln, NE area. Candidates that live anywhere in the Eastern Nebraska or Western Iowa (Sioux City, IA, Des Moines, IA and surrounding areas) areas will also be considered.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety and loss prevention analysis of farms, including basic research, data collection, and evaluation
  • Develop and deliver action plans for improving safety practices and/or changing workforce safety culture/behavior; prepare risk improvement recommendations and provide direct assistance and support to farm to implement
  • Complete negotiated loss control services and general customer service within established timeframes
  • Regularly communicate to farm status of services, support material available, and outside resources relevant to identifying customer's safety needs, concerns, and emerging issues
  • Coordinate and conduct safety training seminars for internal and external customers
  • Work closely with Claims Manager to coordinate and perform broker and account stewardship reviews
  • Assist in preparation and presentation of reports containing innovative, cost-effective solutions to meet customer's safety and loss prevention needs
  • Originate and manage all customer service activities and scheduling in assigned territory; provide value-added customer service to insureds, brokers, and company personnel
  • Complete and deliver loss control reports to Underwriter within established timeframes; monitor customer compliance with recommendations and provide regular updates to Underwriter
  • Collaborate with team to identify new loss reduction and prevention activities to aid the insured and improve retention of accounts
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal staff, customers, brokers, and vendors

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences, Safety, or Engineering disciplines or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 2 or more years' experience in safety/loss prevention, agriculture production/safety, or farm insurance
  • Experience in agricultural and production farming a plus
  • Certification and/or License -
    • Minimum of Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer preferred and/or completion of continued education coursework in OSHA or agriculture related safety organizations
    • Must possess or obtain Property and Casualty insurance license within 6 months of hire
    • Safety and/or insurance professional designation preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, loss prevention concepts, safety standards, and codes
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures
  • Ability to develop and document set of farm safety practices and protocols, deliver and effectively communicate to customers, and monitor adherence
  • Ability to perform comprehensive safety inspections with an emphasis on compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable farm safety standards
  • Strong communication and listening skills in order to develop and maintain relationships with customers
  • Ability to work as a member of a team/unit on assigned projects and be responsible for own work
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to investigate, gather data, analyze information, draw conclusions, and prepare reports in accordance with established timeframes
  • Strong computers skills, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to travel and walk fair distances over potentially uneven and/or rough terrain
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Travel: 50% - 75% (up to 2 weeks per month)
