We are searching for candidates that meet the required qualifications and experience and are able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Job Summary:

Provide and maintain access to library resources and materials. Process orders for, receive, inspect and catalog books and media. Ensure the accuracy of the data in the library catalog in order to facilitate the use of the information and library materials by faculty and students.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with entering invoices into the Acquisition module of the Library computer system to ensure accurate records of items received and current budget balances necessary for ordering. Process incoming Library materials according to Collin College standards and guidelines for shelving, including typing call number labels, affixing labels, security strips and bar code decals and processing cases for media items and plastic book covers.
  • Open boxes of incoming books and media items and check against invoices for accuracy of shipment. Verify charges for covers, security strips, binding and cataloging. Examine materials for physical damage or defects. Contact vendors regarding missing or damaged materials to obtain a replacement or credit.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase of library materials and assist with ordering materials. Ensure materials ordered are entered into the electronic ordering system used by the district. Coordinate processing of media materials. Make decisions regarding the appropriate processing for each media format.
  • Provide clerical support, including typing, filing, answering telephone and mailing of materials.
  • Package and dispatch materials to other institutions for inter-library loan and/or return to vendor.
  • Perform original and copy cataloging of print and non-print materials for all Collin College library collections.
  • Find, download, modify or create original bibliographic records to accurately represent items added to the library catalog. Assign classification numbers to all materials.
  • Receive materials requests and determine the optimum route to fulfillment by selecting the best vendor from among those that offer a particular library book or media item to library customers, based on established criteria such as availability, price, shipping costs and previous performance of vendor.
  • Process and track ILL (Interlibrary Loan) requests to other libraries for unowned resources for faculty, students and staff. Process and track ILL requests from other libraries for items.

  • Knowledge of RDA (Resource Description and Access) standards, MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) language, LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings), LoC (Library of Congress) classification schedules and current best practices in cataloging
  • Knowledge of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) Connexion and the Polaris ILS (Integrated Library System)
  • Knowledge of National Interlibrary Loan Code and copyright law
  • Knowledge of subject analysis and authority control

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, plus pushing, pulling and lifting. Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office environment. Little physical effort required.

Requirements
Associate degree from an accredited institution. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferred.
Two (2) years of related experience. Student development type experience; preferably in the Veterans' Affairs/Veterans Services Office.
