Job Summary

Columbus State University invites outstanding candidates to apply for the non-tenure track position of Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Health Science. Currently, the undergraduate Health Science program, which serves as a feeder program to the MPH, enrolls approximately 200 students. The position is a ten-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the College of Education and Health Professions. Start Date: August 2024

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include: teaching undergraduate health science courses; and performing service and administrative tasks necessary to enhance program, departmental, college, and university goals and objectives. Responsibilities of this position also include assisting with the Council on Education for Public Health accreditation process, recruitment and marketing of the program, advising, and other duties as needed. Teaching responsibility will be in the undergraduate Health Science program.

If hired at the Assistant Professor level, responsibilities will include teaching in the graduate Public Health program and some administrative duties such as assisting with management of the Center for Health Disparities and Community Based Research. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice, and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student engagement and active learning.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have an earned graduate degree (a terminal degree is required to be hired at the Assistant Professor level) in Health Science, Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health or related health field from a regionally accredited institution; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and a strong commitment to student engagement and active learning. Candidates applying for the position at the level of Assistant Professor must provide evidence of or strong potential for developing a record of scholarship including research and publication.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include successful experience teaching at the college level; a record of professional experience in the field of health science or public health (e.g. Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Working with the Aged, etc.); knowledge of and experience with accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health; experience with Health Science-based research and community service centers, participation in relevant professional organizations; and CHES certification.

Proposed Salary

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
