The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Lead Research Analyst to work in the UHealth Campus. The Lead Research Analyst works collaboratively and independently to analyze, interpret, and present data from applicable databases. The role will be responsible for independent research, analysis, and synthesis, working under deadlines. The Lead Research Analyst will work as part of the team leading SCAN360, an interactive platform that integrates data from dozens of data sources to provide a "360 degree view" of the factors that drive patterns in disease burden and social determinants of health across the state of Florida, as well as targeted data in other levels of geography. SCAN360 maps a variety of additional indicators, including sociodemographic, cancer histology and staging, risk behaviors, screening behavior, environmental factors, hazardous sites, health insurance access, prevalence of potential co-morbidities, housing characteristics, and levels of residential segregation, among numerous others. The Lead Research Analyst will be expected to calculate rates, update and maintain data, meticulously document code and processes, seek new data sources, produce dashboards for visualization of data, work with internal and external stakeholders, and participate in scholarly activities (publications, presentations, etc). The Lead Research Analyst will also be expected to take on some project management activities, including managing data access requests.


  • Build Shiny apps for the existing cancer mapping website and other projects that involve exploratory data analysis

  • Write/publish Flex dashboards/RMarkdown documents for a variety of projects, including the Fire Fighter Cancer Cohort Study (FFCCS), the Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI), etc.

  • Prepare publication ready tables and figures to support research projects

  • Coordinates, programs, analyzes, evaluates, and summarizes clinical data

  • Produces and supports systems that extract data from the clinical databases; and builds analysis databases composed of SAS datasets

  • Design, write, edit, and publish dashboards for the visualization of data (including Florida Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council (CCRAB) dashboard, Stroke data dashboard, COVID-19 dashboard, and others)

  • Design, write, edit, and publish Stroke dashboard and participate in meetings

  • Writes R and SAS programs to support public health and epidemiology research projects

  • Prepare publication-ready tables and figures to support research projects

  • Contributes to the development of planning documentation for the collection, handling, reviewing, and cleaning of clinical data to provide a high-quality clinical database

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required, Master's or PhD preferred.

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience and proficiency with statistical software packages, particularly SAS and R.

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, researchers, constituents, and institutional leaders from various backgrounds and at many levels of authority.

  • Strong research skills (research design, data collection and quantitative data analysis of large, longitudinal datasets)

  • Statistical expertise including proficiency in statistical software such as SAS, Stata, R, or SPSS.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills; knowledge of, and experience with writing peer-reviewed publications

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, researchers, constituents, and institutional leaders from various backgrounds and at many levels of authority
