Scribes shadow resident physicians and attending physicians and complete all documentation tasks through real time, on-site medical transcription. Also responsible for ensuring thoroughness of medical documentation, coordination and integration of medical tests/labs/imaging/medical records for ready access of the physicians. The senior scribe will continue to operate and maintain qualifications and skills of a Medical Scribe while also providing administrative and operational support to the department's operation manager and the Medical Scribe Program's Medical Director.

• Coordinates scheduling of medical scribes within the emergency medicine department plus student worker populations, and temp workers. (8 - 10 shifts/workers per day)
• Serves as primary contact liaison between the medical director /operation manager and the medical scribes assigned to the emergency medicine department as well as the scribes assigned to the supported clinics
• Prepares and analyzes reports and proposed schedules of coverage and transition of scribes in all supported areas
• Assists in the coordination, planning, conducting, and evaluation of the initial and ongoing training of medical scribes
• Identifies and trains select medical scribes in the quality assurance process of medical charts to ensure proper procedures are followed for charting within the Emergency Department
• Provides "Real time" transcription of medical record and verification of E/M coding. Ensures medical documentation is complete according to physician '95 coding guidelines and keeps chart deficiencies to less than 5%
• Lab/Radiology/Medical Records Retrieval: Notifies physicians of pertinent information in patient's past medical record and ensure timely review of all laboratory and radiology results by notifying physicians when results are returned. Ensures timely transmission and review of outside medical records by obtaining patient consent for release of external medical records and obtaining them from outside facilities, as needed.
• Assists the physician with communicating their patient care plans with other physicians, nurses and patient care technicians.
• Introduces new and off-service physicians to the basic functionality of the medical records software, including documentation of patient encounter, medical decision-making, order entry and disposition.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Bachelor's Degree and UVA Emergency Medicine Scribe Training
Experience:
One year of real-time medical transcriptionist scribe experience within an academic medical institution

None
Skills:
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
