Primary Duties:

Under general supervision, the Lead Custodian provides leadership in all facets of the cleaning operation for Facilities Management and Services; giving work direction and training for the custodial staff and student employee staff. Working independently and/or as part of a team, the incumbent is responsible for providing general cleaning and custodial care and support, performing their duties in their specific assigned work area and in other work areas as needed. Work areas are located within buildings, facilities, structures, classrooms, public areas, patios, entryways and workshops, adjacent areas and/or portions thereof, but are not limited to these areas. Facilities Management and Services (FMS) is a large, multifaceted department consisting of approximately 200 employees working various shifts and providing diverse administrative and operational services campus wide. The essential functions and responsibilities listed in this position description are typical work activities and the general range of work functions performed by Lead Custodians, they are not an all-inclusive or restrictive list of custodial-related work. Facilities Management and Services maintains, operates, and protects the University facilities and environs to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, safe and healthy for the University community, and attractive for University visitors while preserving the University's physical heritage for future generations. We also support appropriate University and student-sponsored events.

MANDATORY VACCINATIONS
The CSU will require faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be immunized against COVID-19. This requirement will be effective at the beginning of the Fall 2021 term, or upon the full Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of one or more vaccines, whichever occurs first.   • The methods, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, use and care of equipment used in custodial work.
  • Safety and sanitation practices and measures.

  • General knowledge of computers for use in e-mail, data entry and filling out paperwork.

Required Education and/or Experience:

The knowledge and skills needed to perform duties is typically demonstrated with equivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others.

Additional Requirements for this Position:

NOTE: This position may require a weekend day as part of the shift.

Recruitment Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • Three years of full-time equivalent experience providing custodial support in institutional/commercial setting.
  • Experience with management software.
  • Experience and/or training associated with maintenance and upkeep of custodial equipment.

  • California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. Failure to satisfactorily complete or pass the background check may impact the job offer or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for posted positions identified as sensitive. This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines.
  • The person holding this position is considered a "Limited Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.
  • Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
  • Due to events and conferences, the hours of work may vary. Notification of changes will be provided in accordance with the CBA.
  • The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Incumbent will perform physical work consistent with cleaning for extended periods, both inside and outside. In order to complete assignments, the incumbent will regularly lift, move, stretch, reach, kneel, squat, climb ladders and stairs, strip and wax floors. Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to travel across campus to other buildings and areas on campus. Also refer to the Physical Requirements & Work Environment form regarding this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position performs work campus-wide, working in all buildings and all areas of campus. Some duties are performed outdoors and locations may include even and uneven walking surfaces, exposure to weather such as summer heat, humidity or precipitation for several hours each day. Will be required to work with cleaning chemicals, and in dirty and dusty conditions. There may be exposure to contaminated material such as exposure to disease-bearing specimens, body fluids, wastes and blood-borne pathogens. Employees working with hazardous materials shall receive hazardous material training, which includes emergency information, spill response procedures, hazard communication, and storage, handling and labeling procedures. Due to the requirement of performing responsibilities at events and conferences, the hours of work may vary at times. Notification of changes will be provided in accordance with the CBA. Benefit Information:

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation. Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.
