The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to perform a variety of laboratory porcedures, many involving numerous steps and techniques that require the use of sound judgment, close attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving skills. Duties to include:

  • Receives blood samples.
  • Prepares blood components for transfusion.
  • Manufactures blood components.
  • Dispenses and returns blood components.
  • Perfomrs non-serological compatibility testing using pre-transfusion protocols.
  • Labels blood products.
  • Answers the telephone.
  • Keeps records of all transactions.
  • Processes incoming blood shipments.
  • Stocks shelves and helps maintain supply inventory.
  • Performs equipment quality control and equipment maintenance.
  • Performs blood product quality control.
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Interacts with others in a productive and professional manner.
  • Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1200-1830

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
  • Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
  • Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required to meet CAP and CLIA regulations).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in Blood Banking is highly desirable.
