Graymont's Central Lab is currently hiring for a Chemist who will interface with our Sales and Marketing Teams to help develop new protocols for lime applications.

Graymont is seeking a full time Chemist. The Central Lab team in Sandy, Utah provides a valuable resource by conducting testing on limestone and lime products from all Graymont locations. Our current need is for a Chemist who can interface with our Sales and Marketing groups and help develop new products and testing protocols for new lime applications. The position will be split 50/50 between supporting routine testing activities and supporting the Sales and Marketing groups.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and follow established laboratory procedures, safety policies and best practices.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on lab equipment and lab instruments.
  • Conduct routine testing on limestone, lime products, and other raw materials using various chemical and physical test methods.
  • Ensure that established lab turnaround times are met.
  • Participate in the development, refinement and reviewing of laboratory procedures as assigned by the Lab Supervisor.
  • Support Operations with technical issues as needed.
  • Interact with Sales and Marketing group and perform various R&D activities as directed.
  • Perform complex research projects, such as developing new products and testing new methods.
  • Present findings to engineers, scientists, and other colleagues.
  • Prepare compounds, reagents, and solutions used in laboratory procedures.
  • Clean and organize workspace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to develop and maintain a safe work culture.
  • Proven teambuilding and leadership skills.
  • Willing to travel and work in plant environment.
  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and LIMS
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal).
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain and troubleshoot complex/sensitive instruments.
  • Knowledgeable in sampling and sample preparation techniques.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time.
