Location: U.S. Remote (Fully Remote)

We're building services that improve beef traceability, help farmers manage their daily cattle feeding operations, track individual animals, identify and treat sick animals promptly, and automate bookkeeping. Our services span the web, iOS, and specialized hardware, using the cloud to communicate and store data. The engineering team primarily works from home and is well adapted to accommodate candidates located anywhere with reliable internet service. The development environment consists of AWS, FreeBSD, PHP, Go, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, and MySQL, along with iOS apps.

Role Description

IoT Engineers are responsible for agile development, adoption and integration of new hardware and software technologies into the company's existing software and vetting/recommending solutions to hardware adoption, deployment scalability, and software integrations. As an entry-level IoT Engineer, they will work under the direction of Senior IoT Engineers to complete projects and learn core skills for IoT technology development.

Responsibilities

Deploy, harden, and optimize the codebase responsible for
manipulation of and interaction with IoT components such as attached
sensors, storage devices, communication peripherals, and power components.

Develop the processes necessary to extract on-device data such using
MQTT, nb-iot, Bluetooth, WIFI, storage devices, and other possible data sources.

Work with IoT Software Engineers to acquire and validate datasets.

Assess hardware components used for IoT purposes

Skills and Qualifications

Have experience in some, if not all, of the languages we work in (C, PHP, Go)

Have experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Onion Omega, STM, or other IoT development platforms

Have experience with I2C and SPI device interactions

Understanding of Git command-line and GitLab for revision control

Understanding of API adoption and development

Understanding of communication technologies, such as TCP/IP, WIFI, Bluetooth, cellular/LTE-m/nb-iot, NFC

Good communication skills

Ability to work as part of a remote team; simultaneously working within the larger team effort and working effectively on self-directed project thrusts under minimal supervision

Strong ability to demonstrate flexibility and agility to respond to constantly changing conditions and priorities

Willingness to learn and become proficient in tools common to the engineering team and IoT work

Great ability to work effectively in a self-directed team environment and under minimal supervision

Proficient in communicating complex technical situations in an understandable way

Education and Experience

Educational degree in CS, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Data Science or Mathematics is preferred (Bachelors)

Technical Skills and Experience

Experience in PCB fabrication is a plus

Experience with serial device communications and I2C or SPI sensor interaction is a plus

Minimum of 6 months cattle/swine related experience (at time of hiring) is a plus
