About the Department:

Under the direction of the Southern Methodist University Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Investments Office manages the $2.0 billion endowment, including minerals and other planned giving assets of the University.

About the Position:

The Investment Operations Analyst has primary responsibility for aggregating and organizing fund data, executing cash transactions, reporting on performance, exposure, risk and liquidity and data reconciliation. The position's responsibilities also include ensuring data and documentation integrity, maintaining technology resources, and other functions that support the successful implementation of the endowment's investment strategy. The Investment Operations Analyst is an integral member of the Investments Office operations and will report to the Director of Investment Operations and have regular interaction with the University accounting department and members of the investment team.

Essential Functions:

  • Data Management: Aggregate, organize and reconcile manager and benchmark data including performance, market values, exposures, transactions, commitment information, and liquidity terms; Ensure integrity of performance and benchmark data; Maintain portfolio management system, setting up new investments; Research and resolve investment operations and accounting issues in a timely and accurate manner
  • Cash Activity & Analysis: Process investment cash flows and develop cash forecasts; Complete subscription agreements and redemption notices; Analyze and process endowment invoices and expense assessment
  • Reporting (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual cadences): Prepare internal performance, asset allocation, liquidity, exposure, and risk reporting; Prepare standing quarterly report for Investment Committee Meetings; Prepare additional routine and ad hoc reporting for internal and external users
  • Other: Serve as internal expert for investment technology platform; Assist with manager operational due diligence; Undertake special projects as needed; Continually look for ways to make process workflows more efficient by increasing automation, eliminating redundancies, and strengthening checks and controls


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's is required. Preferably degree in Accounting, Finance or a relevant area.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required.

CPA or progress towards a license is a plus.

Candidate with investment operations or accounting experience at an endowment, foundation, asset manager or fund administrator is highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of time-weighted returns, IRR and financial products. A candidate with advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create reports, charts, formulas, pivot tables and macros is preferred. Coding experience is appreciated but not required. Familiarity with Solovis, eVestment, Bloomberg is helpful.

Candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organizational, time management and planning skills are required for this role. Candidate must be dependable.

Candidate should be a self-starter who works well independently and as a member of a team. Candidate must demonstrate clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Candidate should demonstrate aptitude for learning new proficiencies to accommodate evolving technologies and industry practices.
