Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

The primary mission of the GM Structural Development Laboratory (SDL) is to confirm new vehicle designs meet customer usage requirements by developing and performing component, sub-system, and vehicle level physical durability simulations. SDL is a community of lab testing specialists ensuring that the execution of world-class test evaluations is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.

We are seeking an Instrumentation Integration and Controls Engineer to design and develop instrumentation and control systems for validating vehicle structures, closure and subsystems including doors, hoods, deck lids, windows, lift gates, convertible tops, chassis, and suspension. Analyze engineering designs, data and develop conclusions. Collaborate with the Validation and Design Communities. Additional Job Description

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering; an Engineering Technology degree may be considered with the proper work experiences
  • Knowledge of vehicle chassis and body structure systems
  • Knowledge of complex mechanical and electrical systems and concepts
  • Analytical ability where problems are complex
  • Hands-on laboratory testing experience
  • Experience with closed loop pneumatic and servo hydraulic control systems
  • Fundamental knowledge of material strength and fatigue principles
  • Experience with vehicle serial communication protocols
  • Experience with digital data acquisition systems
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering Science
  • Vehicle Spy 3 scripting and controls development. Must have a proven track record of developing VS3 scripting, to both simulate and control vehicle control modules for the testing and development of vehicle systems. (3 plus year of experience preferred)
  • PLC Programming (PCWorx, Visu+, Allen Bradley)
  • HMI Development
  • C#, VB or Java Programming
  • Data Acquisition
  • Microcontroller Programming
  • Systems Integration of laboratory instrumentation and controllers
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Design/Engineer control panels to meet customer specifications
  • Provide installation support, and startup/debug troubleshooting for automated equipment
  • Development of improved procedures for conducting tests
