Environmental Health and Safety at Florida Atlantic University is dedicated to providing and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the FAU Community through comprehensive service-oriented programs. EH&S offers a number of programs such as Biological and Laboratory Safety, Campus and Occupational Safety, Occupational and Public Health, Environmental Protection, Radiation and Laser Safety, Fire Safety, and Building Code Compliance.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Environmental Health and Safety, this position conducts activities to advance the health and safety programs and objectives of the university community and promote university-wide compliance with local, State, and Federal codes and regulations. Such activities may be related, but not limited to general safety and health, indoor air quality, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and various other occupational safety and health programs.
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Industrial Hygienist - Boca Raton, FL.
Summary of responsibilities include:
Assists in the development and implementation of Safety & Health programs including project management, oversight of contractors, and regulatory reporting.
Works with stakeholders to proactively enact health and safety programs to address the needs of the university; facilitate safety & health training and materials for faculty, staff and students; conduct/lead inspections of university operations; and conduct, lead or assist professional contractors with industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, ergonomics, and accident prevention programs.
Follows strategic direction from management for the improvement of the Safety & Health programs and works collaboratively with other departmental functional areas and university operations to attain goals.
May advise FAU faculty, staff, and students and staff regarding safety and health issues relevant to their work, studies, and extracurricular activities, including residential life.
Provides input to the Director, Environmental Health and Safety on compliance issues.
Assists in monitoring, corrective and preventative action programs relative to safety and health to evaluate conformance with federal, state, local and/or University requirements and/or policies and procedures relating to compliance and program management.
Conducts inspections as needed of facilities, campus areas, and construction sites to ensure compliance with safety and health requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five (5) years of experience in health and safety regulatory compliance enforcement with knowledge and experience in the areas of Environmental Science, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field required.
