Job Description

Responsible for overseeing the management, direction, and supervision of all the hazardous waste incineration functions including waste material consolidations for appropriate burns at the facility. Directs and schedules incineration assignments and handles resolutions to moderately complex existing and/or potential problems while efficiently enforcing health, safety, and environmental compliance issues as well as maintaining a high level of quality assurance/controls by implementing appropriate incineration methodologies. Determines cost of materials versus labor and provides technical expertise on incineration modifications, etc. Assist immediate supervisor in the annual preparation and review of targeted goals versus forecasted budget allowances as well as conducting special exploratory assignments as directed by management.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Enforce all compliance, health and safety, and environmental procedures in accordance with departmental policies in undertaking maintenance and engineering projects.

  2. Develop and direct the scheduling of day-to-day activities pertaining to site incineration projects to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the facility.

  3. Direct periodic assessment of incinerators, equipment, etc., and oversee supervision of required repairs to ensure minimal downtime in the movement and incineration of hazardous waste.

  4. Oversee work performed by outside contractors on incinerators to ensure that federal, state, and/or local regulatory requirements are adhered to from inception to completion of the project(s).

  5. Schedule all mandatory training courses as required by OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc., as well as update refresher courses instituted by Veolia.

  6. Develop SOPs to assist the consistent operation of the facility

  7. Develop field rounds to assure field conditions are monitored regularly by operators

  8. Provide direction and guidance in handling problem waste streams and develop appropriate guidelines for special waste problems.

  9. Assist in the development of annual capital budget and long-range capital plans and oversees implementation to insure completion within budgetary constraints.

  10. Assist immediate supervisor in preparing annual budgets to include manpower, equipment, and supplies needs to insure appropriate incineration requirements.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or a related science field required

  • 6 to 8 years of hazardous/industrial waste incineration experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge in the following areas: EPA, OSHA, and Incineration

  • Strong team player

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines

  • Strong customer orientation

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
