Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College is seeking a new Program Director for its world-renowned Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics.
The Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics, established in 1969, was the first of its kind in the United States and remains the largest graduate program in genetic counseling in the world. Integrating education, healthcare, and humanism, this celebrated program prepares genetic counselors to work in a complex, changing field. The mission of the Human Genetics program is to improve health care for all people by educating and training individuals to become genetic counselors so they are prepared to meet current and future needs of their clients, their communities, their profession, and society at large.

Essential Duties Summary
The Program Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Human Genetics graduate program, and works in collaboration with the Provost and Dean of Faculty, the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies, the Director of the Institute for Genomics Education, Workforce & Leadership, and the vibrant team of genetic counseling program leadership, faculty, supervisors, and consultants currently working with the program. The Program Director’s responsibilities include the following:

• Coordinate with leadership team on all program operations and processes: recruitment and admissions, fieldwork, curriculum, program development and outreach, communications and marketing
• Provide leadership and implementation of strategic plan
• Oversee program reviews and accreditation processes
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards
• Partner with external advisory board to inform continuous program innovation and improvement
• Advance continuing professional learning opportunities for program collaborators
• Facilitate student development by contributing to supervision of simulated patient activities and advising student thesis projects
• Collaborate with other programs and offices at the college, including other graduate programs and the Institute for Genomics Education, Workforce & Leadership
• Hire and coordinate leadership team and program collaborators
• Manage budgets and personnel
• Recruit and retain students who hold diverse identities
• Maintain effective relationships with program collaborators who support student fieldwork, research, and coursework
• Strengthen alumni relationships

Required Qualifications
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

• A master’s degree in genetic counseling
• Current certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
• At least five years of experience as a certified genetic counselor, with at least three of those years in a patient-facing role
• Experience as a course director for at least 6 credits of graduate-level coursework
• Previous continuing learning on professional education and diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Experience as a clinical supervisor

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in program administration and an understanding of and experience in online and hybrid learning at the graduate level are preferred. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is required.
