RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:

  • Ensures the Health and Safety goals and objectives are implemented and achieved annually for the plant/location.
  • Collaborates with engineers and technicians to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Participates in new product/process reviews including process hazard analyses, training, etc.
  • Establishes Health and Safety project budgets/proposals and ensure related projects are completed on time and within budget, as required
  • Coordinates with Dodge Corporate & liaison with insurance providers while managing worker compensation cases at the plant due to work-related injuries.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with all local, state & federal environmental & waste-handling requirements and laws
Compliance:
  • Prepares reports including observations, analysis and recommendations for control and correction of hazards
  • Provides technical support to corporate and facility personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines
  • Advises facility staff of regulatory changes with which facility personnel must comply. Sufficient advanced notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is assured
  • Periodically audits practices and records of facility operations to ensure compliance with company programs and Federal/State/Country/ occupational safety and health regulations.
Investigation:
  • Leads incident investigation process, informs management and HSE leaders of findings supports the development and implementation of an action plan. Also ensure the action plan is completed.
  • Analyzes physician’s reports and conducts worker studies, as applicable, to determine if diseases or illnesses are job related
  • Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up as necessary
  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and Worker’s Compensation Claims
Training and Education:
  • Designs, plans, coordinates, and facilitates programs about employee health and safety instructions, regulatory compliance, and incident protection and prevention that will allow the company to deliver a consistent safety message, build a greater safety awareness, and encourage safe work behaviors throughout the organization
  • Drives training and education program to instruct facility personnel in matters pertaining to occupation health and safety for the prevention of accidents
  • Promotes health and safety awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs
  • Analyzes organizational needs vs. resources and determine when contracted “outsourced” solutions for aspects of safety training are appropriate

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in safety management or science/engineering/industrial hygiene is highly desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
  • Certified Safety Professional or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge in OSHA (U.S. Federal and applicable State), EPA, local & state environmental/waste-handling laws & regulations.
  • Understanding of Workers’ Compensation and Return to Work Programs
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety (including NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal briefs, technical data, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of employees comprised of various levels of personnel, from senior executives to facility personnel
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills
  • Intermediate level of computer skills in SAP and MS Office software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate will be required to work in an industrial environment, which may contain hazards such as: loud noise (ear protection must be worn); air-borne dust, exposure to hazards (pinch points, rotating machinery, sharp edges, conveyors, etc.) and wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.
  • Routinely reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch

  • Travel will be required to assist in compliance audits, attend company sponsored meetings and/or events and continuous education
