Employees may be promoted to a Construction Technician II position at a rate of $18.75 upon acquiring necessary certifications and demonstration of skills.

Examples of Work
Operates GPS, level and other surveying instruments as a survey crew member; Inspects and accepts or rejects materials and work on assigned phases of construction projects such as culverts, bridges, earthwork, culverts, asphalt concrete paving, guardrail, lighting, seeding, etc. Performs necessary tests on concrete consisting of slump, air content and cylinders for strength testing. Shuts down projects for safety violations; monitors and reports other violations to the next higher-level authority. Prepares, maintains, and submits inspection reports and records on inspection assignments. Accepts or rejects materials and contractor's work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors and public; Drives commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Operates snow removal equipment to assist State Maintenance.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Experience with word processing, Sitemanager, spread sheets, Microstation and Geopak software is desired. Knowledge of: methods and techniques of surveying, materials testing procedures and techniques, and/or construction inspection procedures; departmental rules, policies, and procedures as they relate to construction work.

OTHER: A valid driver's license is required. Must have a good driving record and possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (COL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement or must obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment. Required training and costs associated with obtaining the CDL will be paid for by the Department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and basic geometry; grammar and spelling; basic computer operations; basic methods and techniques of surveying, materials testing procedures and techniques, and/or construction inspection procedures; departmental rules, policies, and procedures as they relate to construction projects.

Ability to: perform manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions; lift equipment and/or samples weighing up to 60 pounds; interact courteously and tactfully with the public; understand and follow instructions; keep records; communicate both orally and in writing; read and interpret plans and specifications; perform mathematical calculations.

Skill in: surveying, materials testing, construction inspection, and/or operating equipment, computers, and associated software.

Must have the ability to lift and carry equipment and samples up to 90 pounds, to report to work within 45 minutes, under normal driving conditions, of notification for emergencies, to do manual labor out doors in temperature extremes for long hours. Must be able to lift, climb, bend and stoop, and work weekends or holidays.
