Title: HACCP Technician 5 - 1st Shift - Newbern, TN 38059

This position starts at $17.80/hr. with a shift increase for second and third shift and potential for overtime. We have open positions for first shift.

This facility operates five days a week and produces Sausage Patties, Sausage Links and Roll Sausage.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting FS&QA leadership in the development and implementation of the facility HACCP and SQF programs. This position is responsible for the daily monitoring and assessment of program effectiveness and makes necessary changes to programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor through inspection the assigned production line(s) for product and packaging specifications, SQF and HACCP pre-requisite programs, regulatory compliance, sanitation effectiveness, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Assist in verification and validation that the HACCP and SQF programs are working as designed.
  • Perform and verify checks for HACCP and SQF paperwork on the production floor.
  • Review paperwork as assigned by the manager.
  • Assist in maintaining systems to assure facility meets all SQF system requirements including Commitment, Document Control and Records, Specifications, Attaining Food Safety, Verification, Product Identification Trace and Recall, Incident Management, Food Safety Fundamentals - Building and Equipment Design and Construction, and Food Safety Fundamentals - Pre-requisite Programs.
  • Assist in maintaining all registries as required by SQF.
  • Oversee monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meet the facility Food Safety and Quality Plans. Make any necessary corrections to ensure a safe, quality product.
  • Monitor and develop recommendations for HACCP/SQF program when there is a change to a program, process, procedure, ingredient, equipment, industry philosophy, technology, etc.
  • Conduct on-going sanitation inspection of production lines and related facilities during production operation hours.
  • Provide written and/or computerized reports of the monitoring results to designated management personnel.
  • Track, verify and report hold product.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50lbs.
  • Carry out any special tasks per the request of the QA Manager.
  • Cross-train with team members in various other departments as deemed necessary by the QA Manager.
  • In the event that the HACCP Technician is absent or missing for any reason, a trained designee will be appointed by HACCP SQF Specialist to cover any job tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work in temperatures less than or equal to 35 degrees Fahrenheit temperature for minimum of 8 hours
  • Must have the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to maintain and work in aseptic laboratory environment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills which includes communicating with various people groups. For example: Must be able to receive information and be able to verbalize findings to management, USDA.
  • Must have basic math skills which includes but not limited to addition, subtraction, averaging, and calculating percentages.
  • General knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office Applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience with LIMS is preferred.
  • HACCP and GFSI (BRC / SQF) certification required.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP and SQF.
  • Strong verbal / written communication skills, analytical skills, persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Adhere to safety and conduct rules and policies.
  • Maintain efficiency and quality standards.
  • Understanding of sanitation, maintenance, shipping and receiving, processing, and others as needed.
  • Computer knowledge including Microsoft Word and Excel, and SAP.
  • Internal Applicants: Must not have more than 5 attendance occurrences. Must not have a Disciplinary Suspension on file in the last 6 months. Must be in your current position for a minimum of six (6) months unless this job is a higher class than you currently hold.
  • Internal/External: 1-3 years' experience food processing experience required - FDA or FSIS. BA/BS degree preferred (food science a plus).
