Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the oversight of all contract and grant activities for the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Oversees all aspects of pre-award and post-award grant processes, including all activities associated with administering, tracking, and reporting of federal, state, local and private awards. Serves as a subject matter expert for grants administration, interprets and provides guidance on policies and procedures for grants activities and processes. Supervises, mentors, and trains Grants Specialists in the department.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing the initiation, approval, and audit of all departmental fiscal activities for the sponsored funds management of the department, including pre- and post-award and proposal development
  • Interpreting agency, college, and university policies; providing guidance and oversight related to contract and grant initiatives
  • Working with faculty, staff, and external parties to obtain objectives of effective proposals and adherence to award guidelines
  • Being responsible for developing, reviewing, and analyzing sponsored award documents for accuracy and compliance
  • Recommending policies and procedures for the department to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university requirements
  • Advising PIs on pre- and post-award actions and working with them on budget development and submission, long-term planning, post-award administration, and grant closeout
  • Supporting the finding of funding opportunities through the Office of Research

Within the first 30 days, candidate should be able to:

  • Monitor fiscal activities for reporting purposes; ensure compliance with applicable agency, college, university, and state policies
  • Analyze, verify, reconcile, record, and track all financial transactions
  • Prepare integrated financial and statistical reports, financial statements, and/or budget projections for short and/or long-term impact(s) on sponsored funding
  • Provide or create ad hoc reports for PIs, Assistant Director, Chair, College, University, or agencies as required

Within 60 days:

  • Supervise, provide guidance and mentoring to Grants Specialists; lead training and special projects
  • Be responsible for hiring, training, employee development, and evaluation of grants staff
  • Review general ledger reconciliations prepared by grants staff and provide feedback as needed
  • Develop and implement new grant management programs and recommend policies and procedures related to grant activities including establishing departmental deadlines to align agency and university compliance and effective fiscal management of sponsored projects
  • Serve as a departmental liaison and representative for sponsored funds to various college and university entities such as sponsored Research Administration and other central FSU offices

Within 90 days:

  • Provide backup for human resource and fiscal actions for sponsored projects
  • Coordinate personnel appointments and verify effort certification is accurately reflected for PIs
  • Additional duties related to pre- and post-award project activities as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree and four years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.

  • This position requires successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification Series within the first six months from start date.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Anticipated Salary Range

Minimum starting salary for the position is $58,500.00. Anticipated starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
