The Grants Accounting Specialist reports to the Accounting Manager. This person is responsible for the fiscal management and organization of grants, reporting, analyzing, advising, and remaining knowledgeable of federal, state, and grantor regulations. This position also has responsibilities for monitoring and maintenance of budgetary transactions, maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger records.
Responsibilities
Organizes and manages all relevant accounting and financial functions for all assigned grant portfolios
Prepares all applicable grant fiscal reports (monthly, quarterly, and closeout) and ensures the timely submission
Research issues, analyzing financial information, and providing data-driven recommendations to management
Comprehend current federal, state, and local grant regulations and ensure college compliance
Assists in the college's annual year end process
Supports the college's annual audit on grants to ensure a clean and timely completion
Develops and maintains positive professional relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight with all internal and external stakeholders
Process budget transfer requests and assist with monitoring of budgetary transactions in the adopted college budget, as well as maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger records
Assists in the maintenance of the college's grant procedural manual and improvement of any current process to enhance efficiency
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field preferred
Three to five years of progressive employment experience in general accounting required; Experience in fund accounting in an educational setting preferred
Familiarity with grant or project accounting particularly grants involving federal and state funds preferred
Skills in researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex financial data
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently in a continuously changing environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse campus community
Excellent computer skills required; Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency preferred
