Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in our Houston, TX Office.



New graduate engineers can expect to be an integral part of project teams and should be prepared for the following tasks:

  • Communicate with Lead Mechanical Engineer and other discipline engineers
  • Engage with external parties including equipment vendors and facility fabricators
  • Proactively gain understanding of the project with on-the-job training from mentor engineers
  • Take ownership of design, purchase, and fabrication of various equipment packages



Mechanical engineers are intimately involved with all phases of the project, starting with conceptual design phase all the way through the construction and start-up of the facility. They work closely with process engineers at the beginning of the project to properly size equipment for each system, then handle the specification, procurement and vendor coordination for that equipment to be built and delivered.

Communication is key in this role, with Mechanical engineers serving as the hub of information on this equipment between the client, other engineering disciplines, and the equipment manufacturers themselves. It is essential for their development that Mechanical engineers visit these fabrication shops and construction sites to have a full understanding of the equipment and project scope.

Skills / Qualifications

Preferred degree in the following fields of study:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Engineering Technology
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree
