Job Description:
DESCRIPTION: As part of the Fisheries Division's Missouri River Program, this position will work on state management and research projects.

JOB DUTIES: Under the direction of the Missouri River Program Manager, assist and be responsible for conducting fisheries studies on the Missouri River, which includes sport, endangered, and invasive species management and research. Perform field work as a crew leader, assign work duties and schedules for project personnel, and make travel arrangements. Responsible for following standard operating procedures while deploying and retrieving scientific sampling gear, data collection, management and analysis using appropriate statistical methods, and meeting reporting requirements. Order, repair, and maintain sampling gear, boats, and trucks. Maintain scientific collector permits and complete endangered species collection reports. Attend project meetings and training and present project findings at scientific and public meetings. Perform additional related work as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field. Driver's license required.

Note: Daily hours may fluctuate due to travel and sampling requirements. Overnight travel of 1-3 nights per week will be required. Weekend and holiday work maybe be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of fisheries management techniques, record-keeping systems, and conservation statutes as they relate to fisheries management. Ability to operate, maintain and repair fisheries equipment and motor vehicles. Ability to manage large databases, organize, assemble and interpret data, conduct statistical data analyses, and write reports; communicate effectively via professional presentations at public and scientific meetings, and write progress reports and publications. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and graphic/statistical software. Perform physical labor outdoors on boats, which requires strenuous lifting of at least 50 lbs., under adverse weather conditions and work a flexible schedule to adequately complete sampling and surveys. The ability to work with little supervision and develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and the public.
