About the role:

For this developer role within General Motors, you are responsible for developing software applications using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. You will work hands-on writing software or solutions, based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Additionally, you will work with development activities will include: Updating existing software and/or developing new software solutions to address a specific need or solve a particular business problem. You will contribute to all development activities in accordance with appropriate methodologies and application of a repeatable, systematic and quantifiable approach to the development process. You will develop your skill further by working closely with more senior developers to ensure code alignment with design patterns/frameworks.

• Quickly design, develop, and deliver new code
  
• Estimate and design work that is just-in-time and sized in small increments
  
• Perform root cause analysis, do technology evaluations, and develop quick prototypes
  
• Commit to completing well-defined, secure, and elegant work and deliver on their commitments
  
• Report status of assigned software development and/or maintenance tasks
  
• Consistently follow the specified software development methodology
  
• Promote improvements in programming practices such as acceptance test driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
  
• Prospective team members must possess a high degree of business insight, creativity, decision making skills, a drive for results, the ability to negotiate, the ability to develop strong peer relationships, and a strong technical learning capability and focus.
  
• Prospective team members must mentor junior level developers to become individual contributing team members. This will include coaching, code reviews, teaching best practice development, etc.
  
• Experience with Agile teams that have regularly delivered software while practicing code review
  

Additional Job Description

This opportunity will consider candidates with any or all of the following skills and experiences:

• Over 3 years of software development experience in Java using Spring, Spring Boot with MVC and RESTful services
  
• Over 3 years of software development experience in HTML, SCSS/Less, and JavaScript following accessibility standards (meeting WCAG Level AA standards), semantic markup, structured CSS (BEM/OOCSS/etc), browser compatibility standards, and developed with progressive enhancement and graceful degradation as requirements
  
• Multiple years of experience with Angular or ReactJS
  
• Expertise in SQL (relational databases), key-value datastores, and document stores
  
• Expertise in end-to-end applications hosted on PCF and Kubernetes with a focus on scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance
  

Qualifications:

• Full lifecycle application development using standard design patterns/frameworks
  
• Must have experience as part of a software project delivery effort
  
• Demonstrate mastery of several programming languages, tools and/or technologies
  
• Assists with Performance tuning, usability assessment/improvement
  
• Proactively engage in the identification / remediation of software issues such as code quality, pattern mismatch, and security issues related to the code or solution/configuration
  
• Integrate software with existing software/systems
  
• Knowledge of Software testing, quality assurance and solutions testing including automation
  
• Knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software applications
  
• Work closely with senior developers, software engineers and/or data scientist to gain additional knowledge and expertise.
  
• Document software solutions and ensure that technical documentation meets GM standards
  
• Understand and maintain compliance with GM standards and industry standard methodology
  
• Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors.
  
• Models GM behaviors and crafts a winning culture.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience creating self-contained, reusable, and testable modules and components in frontend and backend work
  
• Proven experience diagnosing issues from browser to infrastructure to network to database and all the way back
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
  
• Creative problem-solving skills that deliver elegant solutions to complex issues
  
• Strong teamwork focus (live by the team, die by the team) and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
  
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or, equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
  
• Over 2 years developing 12 factor apps including designing and implementing Continuous Integration, Build, and Delivery
  
• Deep experience in design and development of Java Spring Boot based reactive and high volume application
  
• Over 2 years utilizing platform and infrastructure as a service technologies and capabilities and their corresponding services (object store, configuration management, service registries, etc)
  
• Over 2 years of Angular or ReactJS development experience
  
• Experience using Git source control doing rebases, merges, and handling merge conflicts
