LRC is an inpatient, 250 bed, Joint Commission-accredited state psychiatric hospital which is run by DHHS located in Lincoln, NE. LRC serves people who need very specialized psychiatric services and provides services to people who, because of mental illness, require a highly structured treatment setting.

Examples of Work
The Forensic Psychiatrist functions as the attending of record and reports directly to the State Hospital Medical Director. Staff psychiatrists participate in the care of patients admitted to the state of Nebraska DHHS facilities or outpatient programs as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. As part of these duties the staff psychiatrist completes psychiatric assessments and evaluations of patients admitted to the DHHS services. They review medical information as available and may consult with other medical professionals to interpret clinical findings. The staff psychiatrist will establish a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan based on these processes. They will treat the psychiatric problems of patients on their case load and prescribe medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders when indicated. The staff psychiatrist will work closely with the other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to formulate an appropriate treatment plan. They will also participate in treatment rounds, case conferences, and other meetings as required. Staff psychiatrists also provide expert opinion to the courts, state mental health boards and the Nebraska department of health and human services when necessary. They may also be asked to prepare diagnostic reports for DHHS and Lincoln Regional Center administration, judges, Mental Health Boards, and other interested parties. Staff psychiatrist are considered the attending of record and may be involved in the supervision of psychiatry residents or fellows or other medical trainees. They may also be involved in the education, direction and instruction of other professional staff. Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: 1. Applicants must hold an M.D. or D.O. 2. Applicants must have or be able to obtain a Nebraska medical license. 3. Applicants must be board certified in Psychiatry. 4. Applicants must have completed an ACGME accredited forensic psychiatry fellowship and be board eligible or board certified in forensic psychiatry. 5. Applicants must interested in working for the State of Nebraska forensic psychiatry department up to 50% of the time. 6. Applicants must be interested in working in the State of Nebraska clinical care services carrying a clinical case load as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Psychiatrists must have knowledge of the methods and procedures in the field of general medicine and general psychiatry. This includes knowledge of the principles of psychiatric treatment. 2. Psychiatrists must have knowledge of the development, implementation, and documentation, of person centered, and individualized treatment plans. 3. Psychiatrist must have the ability to work collaboratively with staff. 4. Psychiatrists working at the Lincoln Regional Center must have knowledge and skills in providing services to people with psychiatric disorders in an in-patient hospital setting. 5. Psychiatrists must have knowledge and skills in effectively using an electronic healthcare system. 6. Psychiatrists must have skills in the care and treatment of patients using the most current medical and psychiatric diagnostic treatment modalities. 7. Psychiatrists must have the ability to assess, diagnose, and prescribe treatment to assigned patients with psychiatric disorders while conforming to federal and state requirements. 8. Psychiatrists have the ability to solve medically difficult issues by considering opinions of consultants and/or the ability to review appropriate literature to incorporate the current accepted guidelines into the treatment plan. 9. Psychiatrists must have the ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary treatment team by facilitating a team approach optimizing the expertise of all team members and involving patients in order to assure high quality patient centered care. 10. Psychiatrists must have the ability to participate in treatment team meetings to provide ongoing input into the treatment of patients on their case load and medical staff meetings to participate in voting activities as described in the medical staff bylaws. 11. Psychiatrists must have the ability to work independently using good judgement and advanced time management skills. 12. Psychiatrists must have the ability to participate in annual training as well as any other required specific training in order to assure up to date skills and knowledge in required areas such as CPR and safe use of restraints. Updated basic lifesaving (BLS) certification is required. 13. Psychiatrists must have the ability to keep the medical records updated to hospital standards as set by the hospital documentation policies and procedures. They must also be able to organize and present information effectively, orally, in writing and in the medical record.
