Foreign Trade Assistant at TSI

This position will be located in the distribution department to carry out efficient and accurate processing of documentation on all export shipment transactions in compliance with U.S government regulations and specific customer requests to ensure prompt delivery to customers. A portion of each day will also be spent backing up the distribution personnel as needed.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will be responsible for:

  • Prepares export shipping documents in compliance with various Federal and State agency export regulations. Including Shipping Invoices, Shippers Export Declarations, export licenses, HS/Schedule B analysis & number assignment.
  • Assists with the preparation of specific customer instructions and/or letters of credit.
  • Coordinates pick up of international shipments with freight forwarders.
  • Provides proper instruction to others (freight forwarders and other in-house staff) who assist in preparing export documents.
  • Fax/email shipping invoices and shipment details to international customers when requested.
  • Interacts regularly with order entry and sales administration answering questions they may have on international work orders and confirming arrival of incoming international returned goods.
  • Work with DHL, Fed Ex and UPS Shipping Systems.
  • Use SAP functions required to deliver the shipment, i.e., post goods issue, adding weights and box numbers, transport tracking number, etc.
  • Perform material handling duties during the day as needed depending on the workload.
  • Maintain proper record retention in accordance with government export regulations.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Complete other assignments and special projects as requested.

What Do You Need?
Required

Education
  • 3 or more years of experience in shipping, stockroom, or import/export documentation. Or, Foreign Trade Certificate with a minimum of 1 year of working experience. Degree in international trade export documentation or related is desired.
Experience
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment desired.
  • Experience working with SAP-Global Trade System or equivalent desired.
Desired/ Knowledge
  • General knowledge of import/export documentation and compliance procedures and regulations.
  • Understanding of record retention practices.
  • Ability to read text of moderate difficulty and interpret the instructions and/or regulations.
  • Strong writing skills are required to write emails, faxes, declarations, and certifications.
  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving practices.
  • Strong PC skills using MS office products. SAP exposure also desirable.
  • Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical, decision making, problem solving and research skills
  • Ability to provide feedback and make suggestions for process improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
