Southern Industrial is looking for Fire Watch to work at our maintenance site in Gaston, SC.

Position Summary

• Recognize materials used to construct, fabricate, modify and secure steel bars and mesh using various fasteners.
• Pull, push, or pry iron and steel equipment into place.
• Assist Journeyman with cutting, bending, and welding iron and steel pieces using metal shears and welding equipment.
• Prepares and aligns structures by positioning steel girders, bolting or other permanent set up.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
• Erects framework for structures.
• Assists with scaffolding and other assembling structures above ground level.
• Works within precise standards of accuracy.
• Reviews and compares differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects with support of direct supervision
• Follow directions, plans, and blueprints.

Essential Duties

• Perform work from scaffolding, ladders or other structures.
• Perform work overhead, at heights, beneath structures, and from various other positions as required by working conditions.
• Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Lift and carry objects of varying weights.
• Detect, recognize and respond to dangerous conditions or situations.
• Performs minor maintenance and cleaning activities of site, tools and equipment.
• Ability to verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors, and respond to questions from managers and fellow workers.
• Regular attendance is required.
• Significant travel may be required.
• Performs other duties as required.

Working Conditions

Conditions may include working in shop, busy traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped properties, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to safely access all areas of property, including rooftops and other elevated positions as well as, confined spaces. Must be able to effectively use all required PPE equipment and lift up to fifty pounds. Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform the essential functions associated with this position. Must be able to safely operate.
