We are a construction company that provides asphalt, concrete, and site development services to public and private sector customers in northeastern Indiana. Family-owned and operated for over 100 years. Our company is mid-size with just under 250 employees.

*About the role:*

The role of Financial Controller is newly created as a result of an internal promotion and departmental restructuring. The ideal candidate should possess qualities such as self-motivation, energy, and a strong work ethic. Additionally, they should have the desire to learn, solve problems, and contribute to the long-term growth of both the company and themselves. The candidate should be adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment. This position provides a unique opportunity to work closely with an experienced CFO/CPA and company owners who prioritize the company's operations and financial systems that support them.
What You Will Be Doing As the Financial Controller, you will collaborate with the CFO and Cost Controller to establish and maintain top-notch financial systems, generate high-quality data, and enhance the accounting department's expertise. You will oversee and manage the financial accounting functions of the company, which involves supervising three full-time accounting specialists in charge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting tasks, as well as one part-time data entry clerk. This role includes managing collections, such as filing liens and bond claims, as necessary, as directed by the CFO. Additionally, you will oversee the disbursement process by reviewing, approving, and scheduling weekly disbursements, as well as maintaining the company's cash book and assisting the CFO with all cash management activities. You will apply use tax concepts to complete the use tax portion of the monthly sales/use tax report. As the Financial Controller, you will coordinate with the Cost Controller to complete month-end closing, analyze the financial statements, benchmark company results, and conduct research as necessary before presenting the information to the CFO. Furthermore, you will lead the annual financial statement audit in conjunction with the external CPA firm and prepare various annual compliance reports. Finally, this position will be responsible for completing the annual insurance audit work papers and aiding the CFO in the renewal process.

- Direct and manage financial accounting functions including the documentation of these functions.
- Staying updated on new accounting standards and regulations, and implementing them.
- Overseeing the collection process.
- Maintaining strong internal controls, and developing and implementing new procedures as needed.
- Preparing monthly financial statements and managing the year-end financial audit.
- Mentoring and managing the financial accounting team, and handling employee matters.
- Serving as the primary contact for accounting software hotline issues.
- Collaborating with the IT department to develop and maintain financial reporting tools and data analysis.
- Supporting the CFO and management in achieving strategic company goals.
What You Need for this Position *Experience:*

- 5+ years of relevant experience in construction accounting (industry or public accounting).
- Viewpoint's Spectrum software experience is a plus.

*Education:*

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
- CPA license is required or the desire & ability to obtain a CPA license in the future.
- Chartered Global Management (CGMA) and/or Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation is a plus.
