Job Summary

Bechel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is seeking a Materials/Metallurgical Engineer for its Monroeville, PA location, which is just east of Pittsburgh, PA. The Materials/Metallurgical Engineer will perform materials engineering evaluations, analysis, and make engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks which may include a combination of several functions involving the design, fabrication, installation, and refurbishment of equipment.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Review/prepare material and process instructions, standards, and specifications.
  • Prepare, follow, and report material development programs.
  • Provide materials engineering oversight of supplier processing and fabrication procedures.
  • Analysis of material conditions.
  • Troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Assisting with in-service inspections and evaluations.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Materials Science, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering (with an interest in physical metallurgy) from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for newer college graduates.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Requires a security clearance, however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
  • Requires US Citizenship due to security clearance requirements.

Preferred Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering (with an interest in physical metallurgy) preferred.
  • Application of materials and processes in the design and fabrication of equipment. Preparation and interpretation of specifications and standards for metallic and nonmetallic materials and processes, and the metallurgy of materials to fabricate plant equipment or pressure vessels is desirable.

BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel.
