As the Ethics and Compliance Associate Director you are responsible for driving AZ's compliance program in one or more AZ oncology franchises. You will represent Global Compliance as a member of management teams, projects or other (senior) cross-functional collaborations. We also need you to strategically contribute to the direction of AZ's compliance function and AZ's broader Sustainability objectives.

Together with your colleagues, you'll cultivate a culture of ethics, integrity, inclusion and diversity while helping to craft AZ's patient-centricity and digital priorities as we lean into the future. You will further our purpose to drive high standards of ethical behavior and accountability across AZ for sustainable success. And you will work to take steps and create initiatives to further strengthen our commitment to doing the right thing.

You'll report directly into the VP Compliance Oncology Business Unit (OBU), at our office based in Gaithersburg, MD, USA.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Implements and maintains an effective compliance program by empowering OBU colleagues to tackle critical business challenges and make sustainable choices that benefit people with cancer and our society at large.
  • Serves as primary contact for compliance and sustainability matters to (senior) OBU employees from the assigned oncology franchises comprising of teams operating in the US and at Global level (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Oncology Care Innovation).
  • Translates questions and issues into concrete improvements in policies and procedures to simplify ways of working, strengthen our compliance program and sustain an ethical culture in OBU.
  • Develops and delivers compliance objectives (aligned with Global Compliance strategy and objectives) to ensure an embedded and streamlined approach to governance and assurance.
  • Supports AZ's risk framework and risk register, including effective mitigation of assigned compliance risks (e.g., inappropriate product promotion, data privacy, anti-bribery/anti-corruption or fraud)
  • Delivers on "second line of defense" accountabilities spanning all elements of AZ's Compliance program, including business partnering, risk assessments, training, education, presentations, review of control measures, monitoring, auditing, investigations and reporting.
  • Champions our broader Global Sustainability strategy across AZ's three pillars of Ethics & Transparency, Environment and Access to Medicines.
  • Collaborates optimally with and serves as a trusted partner for colleagues from the OBU, other Senior Executive Team functions and AZ's Enabling Units.

Requirements
  • Professional with (at least) an undergraduate bachelor's degree and working experience in compliance, law, accountancy, or business consultancy
  • 5 plus years experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Working experience in pharmaceuticals (or a related industry) and familiar with fast-paced commercial environments
  • Knowledge of the US healthcare compliance legal framework (eg. FCA, AKS, FDCA, HiPAA, SOx) and UK's ABPI and other relevant corporate governance, health care regulations, laws and standards, including US specific healthcare fraud & abuse regulations
  • Proven working experience in large multicultural commercial organizations
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communications skills in English
  • Exhibit strong collaborative, partnering, and interpersonal skills with a proactive mindset and a pragmatic and solutions-orientated approach
  • Strong ability to work independently, capable of dealing with ambiguity in a fast-paced, sophisticated working environment (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous)
  • Uncompromising ethical standards, honest, operating with absolute discretion and confident in exercising independent judgment
  • Willingness to positively contribute to a high-energy team culture, a spirit of continuous improvement and a drive to excel
  • Willingness and ability to travel (international and domestic) and independently work from home

Desired Requirements
  • Advanced or post-graduate degree in law, compliance, accountancy, or business consultancy
  • Affinity with working across multiple cultures
  • Command of Spanish or other widely spoken language
  • Project management training and experience
