The ESG Specialist ESG specialist to support our internal company ESG strategy and commitments, providing thoughtful communication, offering technical program expertise, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to further strengthen our positive impact on the sustainable development challenges before us. The ESG Specialist is responsible for supporting development of, executing, managing and measuring key sustainability programs at the company. In addition to management of Montrose's internal ESG program, the ESG Specialist will work on client engagements related to the development of their ESG commitments and programs as part of Montrose's Environmental Advisory Services practice.

We are looking for someone with a passion for making a positive impact on the environment, a strong understanding of various ESG reporting frameworks, and a track record of assessing needs, conceiving strategy, and engaging others to support the work of managing global ESG strategies. Industry experience and sustainability reporting experience are helpful. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience with program management, reputation building, creativity and innovation in the sustainability area. This individual will report into the Environmental Advisory Services practice, as well as partner on relevant internal reporting and communication projects with our Corporate Marketing team.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a key member of the Environmental Advisory Services team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
  • Collaborate with internal business leads, including senior leadership, and external stakeholder groups to achieve key sustainability goals; develop strong relationships and partnerships
  • Lead the development of Montrose's annual Sustainability Report, coordinating with respective internal stakeholders and third-party ESG partners. Manage metrics and reporting on performance for management reports and inclusion in annual report
  • Coordinate data collection, validation and public reporting supporting our GHG commitments and insure they meet data assurance requirements consistent with our ESG auditor
  • Manage our ESG Committee efforts, coordinating meetings, agenda and progress against goals and objectives. Drive the research, planning and development of corporate programs related to meeting ESG commitments
  • Manage work scopes and ongoing partnerships with our third-party ESG consultants
  • Maintain understanding of leading trends and changes in climate & energy, corporate social responsibility, brand purpose and overall sustainability landscape, including regulatory issues
  • Serve as an internal contact and information source for sustainability initiatives focusing on energy, waste and water
  • Develop initiatives, resources and tools that will enable Montrose leadership and relevant ESG partners to share appropriate information about Montrose's sustainability efforts with stakeholders and requestors
  • Provide ESG framework insights to Montrose clients engaged in the development of their own programs
  • Develop and maintain processes as needed to identify opportunities to further enhance Montrose's ESG program and respond to potential issues of concern
  • Work collaboratively with the ESG Committee, Advisory Services team, and our ESG partners to quickly identify and respond to emerging topics that are of keen interest to clients, investors and the broader community
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Exercises safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participates in Company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Keeps up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in environmental science, management, sustainability, or related field
  • 3+ years relevant professional experience from a consulting firm, NGO working with business, or a CSR/sustainability, corporate affairs, or similar role in the private sector
  • Experience in ESG program management within a professional services company or industry a plus
  • Experience in a science-based, technically-oriented organization a plus
  • Experience working with investors, reporting agencies, and media stakeholders on communicating policy and corporate responsibility matters a plus
  • Demonstrated track record of managing varied internal ESG program initiatives
  • Experience developing content for communicating complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working on complex, sensitive topics, including the ability to build credibility, develop strong working relationships and effectively navigate organizational relationships
  • Ability to interface and effectively work with various groups and cultures involved (partners, government, agencies, contractors, operations, etc.), and gain alignment to achieve objectives
  • Confidence to counsel company leaders and clients on sustainability initiatives and strategy
  • Familiarity with SASB and TCFD reporting on sustainability efforts, including an understanding of CDP reporting, a plus
  • Process driven with passion for continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Motivated and a quick learner, able to work both independently and as team player
  • Ability or willingness to balance multiple competing priorities, meet deadlines, and be responsive and thrive in a team environment
  • Outstanding writing and presentation development skills
