The Equipment Manager cares for all university athletic equipment, uniforms, and related items. Including, but not limited to, ordering, inventory control, disbursement, collection, laundry, and repair of common items for all sports.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage the services and day to day operations of the athletics equipment room in the ARC
  • Collaborate with teams to manage purchasing, inventory, tracking, distribution, and care of athletic equipment and supplies while staying within their respective budget
  • Assist with Valparaiso Athletics apparel contract
  • Develop contacts with vendors and manufacturers
  • Ensure proper fitting and maintenance of all sports equipment including helmets and pads to provide a safe environment for student athletes as per AEMA guidelines
  • Travel with the football team to away games
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise equipment room staff
  • Oversee laundry services for all athletic teams
  • Receive delivery of packages for the athletic department and track and disperse them accordingly
  • Assist with game day management as needed to include set-up/breakdown, supervise crowd control, and serve as host to visiting team and officials
  • Work with facility management to prepare and maintain competition and practice facilities as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 1-2 years of previous equipment experience
  • Knowledge of the sporting goods industry and products
  • Strong organization skills

Driving a University vehicle or other vehicle while conducting University business is a requirement of this position. Applicants who apply for this position will be required to complete a motor vehicle record check. At a minimum, a successful candidate's driving record must be in compliance with guidelines established by the University. The results of the record check will be evaluated by the University before an applicant can become an employee of the University.
