Job Description

The Environmental Technician performs work in industrial settings including assembly plants, metal fabrication plants, refineries, and power train plants. They collect, sort, and transport disposables and recyclables including trash, hazardous waste, scrap metal, and other waste streams throughout a facility to designated containers and locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform job duties in a safe manner compliant with policies, procedures, and practices.
2. Maintain a safe, neat, and clean work environment this includes the work area, equipment, locker rooms, break rooms, and office areas.
3. Model professional behavior at all times; report to work as scheduled, on time, and prepared to work.
4. Collect trash, recyclables, and hazardous waste from various locations throughout the facility.
5. Break down scrap parts for repair or recycling.
6. Transport waste/recyclables to disposal containers and/or storage locations.
7. Load semi-trailers and roll-off boxes for shipment to landfill or recycling center.
8. Maintain storage areas, and drum pads in accordance with regulations.
9. Document and inform the manager or a designated person of any contamination in the recycling containers.
10. Complete reports and documentation correctly and submit them timely as directed.
11. Participate in meetings to access the work environment for safety and effectiveness.
12. Operate equipment safely and compliant with policies including fork-trucks, tuggers, and
transport carts.
13. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and safety checks on mobile equipment before and after operating; report any defects appropriately and timely.
14. Demonstrate a commitment to learning and development; stay current on safe work practices, policies and regulations.
15. Work effectively in a team environment and provide support and assistance to others.
16. Commitment to promoting and creating a safe culture and positive work environment.
17. Perform other job duties as requested to support business operations.

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • Experience operating a forklift or similar equipment is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Able to read and understand instructions in English.
  • Push/pull and frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate small hand tools, and pick up and sort small parts.
  • Lift, carry, push or pull equipment of various sizes, shapes, and weights.
  • Able to sit periodically and for extended periods of time, climb ladders/stairs, reach below knees and above shoulders, kneel and crawl to access work areas.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping, able to reach forward and grasp equipment.
  • Ability to balance and walk on wet and slick surfaces, metal grates, narrow platforms, and uneven surfaces.
  • Work in loud, cold, hot, wet, and dry environments.
