Job Description:
Environmental Technician

This is a Part Time, Temporary position with the potential opportunity for Permanent employment

40 hours every two weeks

Evening Shift

Must be open to working ALL Weekends

Position Highlights:

Under general supervision of an Environmental Services Supervisor, cleans, maintains and services assigned areas throughout RUMC. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. 10 Step cleaning
  2. Vacuum Carpeted areas.
  3. Dry and wet mop hard floors.
  4. Cleans and Polish metal surfaces.
  5. Perform "Discharge cleaning" as assigned/ Utilize Bed Tracking System
  6. Spot clean windows.
  7. Clean water fountains.
  8. Clean public telephones.
  9. Clean all restrooms
  10. Empty waste receptacles and remove waste.
  11. Transport waste from collection points to compactors
  12. Set up meeting rooms and move furniture as required.
  13. Maintain all supplies in assigned supply storage area and keep area clean and organized.
  14. Clean all upholstered furniture.
  15. Clean emergency spills and floods
  16. Strip and refinish all hard floors.
  17. Shampoo all carpets.
  18. Maintain and operate all cleaning equipment both electrical and battery.
  19. Wash walls and ceilings as assigned.
  20. Perform special projects such as hanging drapes and cubicle curtains.
  21. Clean and maintain equipment and request repairs as needed
  22. Report any deficiencies observed in equipment, furniture or fixtures (e.g., needed painting, burnt out exit lights, stained ceiling lights, broken fixtures etc.)
  23. Sign In and Out pagers, keys and equipment.
  24. Clean rolling stock, hospital equipment and related items.
  25. Accountable for cleanliness and neat appearance of assigned area, and that the schedule is complete and all instructions are followed so that the area will pass inspection of supervisors, managers and administrative personnel.
  26. Return all soiled dry/wet mops to designated areas.
  27. Performs related duties as assigned.

  2. Patients, Guests, and Visitors.


Position Qualifications Include :

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read, write, speak English required
  • Prior cleaning experience helpful but not essential.
  • Must demonstrate, after training, skill and controlling all cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge of proper use of chemicals and equipment in cleaning, stripping and refinishing floors and in shampooing carpeting and upholstery to achieve desired results.
  • Must be able to 10 step clean and isolation clean a patient room, cycle clean OR and L&D suites, and terminal clean areas as needed.
  • Must be able to use Bed Tracking System.
  • Stand, walk and stoop often while performing duties.
  • Must be able to push, pull and control cleaning equipment and materials up to 200 pounds in weight, and to move pallets, furniture and large trash objects and containers, and manipulate large damp mop.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have neat personal appearance.
