Description
Under limited supervision, monitors compliance by reviewing data to initiate enforcement actions against public water supply systems; provides information to program staff and the regulated community to promote compliance with regulations; prepares reports for federal and state agencies; and identifies and informs individuals or communities about water contamination.
Location of position: 245 Fallbrook Blvd - Lincoln, NE
Work schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Flexible Schedules - After 6 month probationary period 10 hour workdays may be available.
Examples of Work
- Submits routine and special reports to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as regulated or requested.
- Prepares reports and interprets findings for the Governor's staff, agency staff, Natural Resources Districts, consulting engineers and owner/operators of systems.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual reports to the legislature to inform them of program developments, accomplishments and needs.
- Identifies violations of state regulations/statutes and initiates appropriate enforcement actions against public water systems.
- Assists in the development of public water supply program policies, procedures and standards. Assists in interpreting and communicating existing and new federal and state laws/regulations to define their compliance requirements for field staff, system own/operators, local officials and the EPA.
- Work with a data base management system to monitor the compliance of public water systems to state and federal laws/regulations, and to track enforcement actions taken.
- Writes, edits and revises regulatory summaries to inform the regulated community of state requirements.
- Attends meetings of public water supply associations/organizations and other lay/professional groups as a representative of the agency.
- Maintains working relationships and provides regulatory assistance to local boards of health, municipal officials, industrial officials, consulting engineers and the public in assigned program areas
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning, or a related field OR two years of work experience in a related area.
PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental sciences, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related field and 1 or more years of experience. Associate's degree in any of the above mentioned fields and 2 or more years of
OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent transportation; Ability to travel overnight; Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: basic knowledge of data management systems and software; biological, physical and/or chemical sciences.
Ability to: communicate effectively both verbally and written; establish and maintain working relationships with public and private officials and the general public; analyze and interpret data to draw conclusions and write administrative reports; prioritize, plan and organize work; maintain records related to assigned program area.
