Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Director will proactively plan, develop and implement programs designed to ensure the health and wellness of our employees, maintain compliance with global environmental, health and safety regulations and laws, and promote an atmosphere of continuous improvement. This position will also provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to safety specialists, site safety teams, all employees, and leaders.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide strategic direction on planning, development, administration, and management of companywide EHS policies, programs, best practices, systems, and training
  • Design and implement frameworks for risk management and monitoring
  • Analyzes and recommends corrective and preventive actions
  • Research and strategize emerging and complex risks
  • Lead Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship Initiatives
  • Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices
    • Loss Source Analysis
    • Site visits
    • Production cell assessments
    • Incident investigations and root cause analysis
    • Monitor current safety trends
    • Provide oversight on current legal requirements and research new or proposed legislation
  • Develop hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs
    • Provide engineering and administrative hazard control solutions to eliminate exposures and reduce the probability and/or severity of injuries, illnesses, and environmental incidents through processes, programs, initiatives and/or blitzes
    • Provide hands-on assistance with the development of standard work
    • Conduct industrial hygiene assessments as needed
  • Measure, audit, and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs
    • Set up realistic and useful performance metrics
    • Monitor effectiveness of programs through audits and assessments
    • Develop a culture of accountability with the operating companies
  • Implement, administer, and advise others on hazard control and hazard control programs
    • Provide dashboards, reports, and other measures to communicate progress
    • Make recommendations on opportunities for improvement for policies, procedures, and programs
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a safety or environmental field
  • 10 years of experience performing and managing EH&S activities
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
Desirable Criteria & Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation
  • Environmental Health and Safety Professional Certificate (EHS)
  • Demonstrated experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
