The Enterprise Risk Officer plans, executes, and manages enterprise risk function for Amerant Mortgage. This individual will own credit risk, compliance, and vendor risk management processes and procedures within the organization. This role will collaborate with our origination, capital markets, operations, and marketing teams to ensure all aspects of our organization comply with applicable Federal, State laws/regulations and internal policies and controls.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day compliance support to lending product and operational groups focused on marketing, applications, underwriting, and originations
  • Research, communicate, and test compliance requirements for new or modified products or services
  • Chair Credit and Compliance committees to lead and direct credit and compliance activities of the organization.
  • Coordinate all credit risk decisions including exception tracking, portfolio performance metrics.
  • Build and manage change management programs, including product/system changes and regulatory updates
  • Oversee and/or conduct ongoing monitoring and testing related to mortgage lending regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate review marketing materials such as prescreen direct mail, social media ads, television ads, radio ads, search engine marketing ads, disclosures, brochures and forms to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including Fair Lending and UDAAP concerns
  • Work closely with vendor risk management to ensure all vendors are being monitored and managed in accordance with Company and Agency requirements.
  • Drive corrective action process, including collaborating across business units to resolve and document issues
  • Administer Amerant Mortgage’s compliance training program for all employees, and deliver training to applicable departments as necessary
  • Maintain existing policies and procedures and draft new policies and procedures as necessary
  • Provide support for regulatory examinations, external audits, and third-party diligence requests
  • Work cross-functionally to gain a deeper understanding of other teams' processes and the impact of policy on their businesses
  • Set and manage credit risk policies to ensure a high level of credit quality and performance.
  • Position will be a part of the Amerant Mortgage Executive committee. Participate and contribute to organizational decision making.
Education and/or Certifications Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in finance required or; AA and/or 10 minimum years of experience within field.

Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of residential compliance experience, in regulatory compliance at a bank, extensive credit risk experience, mortgage lending company or government agency.

Technical and/or Other Essential Knowledge:

Highly Organized, Detail Oriented, Process Driven. Proficient with MS Applications.
Mortgage industry compliance and credit experience is required
Strong project-management skills, with a proven ability to coordinate across departments and functions
Proven ability to draft procedures and evaluate internal controls
Strong work ethic and hands-on approach
Ability to address challenging issues while remaining objective and independent
Ability to build technical processes and work with Product to provide compliance related requirements
Demonstrated knowledge and application of consumer protection laws and regulations such as TILA/Regulation Z, ECOA/Regulation B, FCRA, HMDA, FACTA, FDCPA, SCRA, BSA/AML, EFTA, UDAAP, and GLBA.
Experience conducting compliance monitoring and testing program
Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365 products including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, and MS PowerPoint
