Telecom-Outside Plant Engineer
DDS Engineering and Surveying, LLP (DDSE), is an experienced and highly qualified natural gas/civil engineering, permitting and survey firm that has been performing consulting engineering and construction services in the natural gas industry for many years. We currently perform these engineering services related to natural gas transmission, distribution main design, station design (M&R, gate stations, and regulator stations) and customer services (residential and commercial) for a variety of natural gas customers throughout the Northeast. Our dynamic team is comprised of experienced natural gas engineers, civil and mechanical engineers, surveyors, gas construction personnel as well as in-house staff expertise in the areas of legal, compliance, and safety. With flexibility in location (NY, PA, MA, CT, RI) our fast-growing energy division is seeking thoughtful and highly motivated individuals to be part of our team.
The Outside Plant Engineer will be responsible for the field design and layout of OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications networks to include aerial, buried and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/hand hole, building entrance and riser facilities. In addition, the Outside Plant Engineer will also help drive the project through the system for final development and budgeting. This role can also expect to support the design team with project detail, field design, layouts, images and additional research and resource materials.
This position will be required to perform the following functions:
• Project development for new customer proposed projects
•Develop site plans and images
• Prepare project timelines, prepares and track budgets
• Define labor and materials for project
• Permitting
• Works closely with other carriers, local/state agencies and building owners/landlords on new building adds and relocations
Job Qualifications:
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years outside plant telecommunications engineering experience
• Strong OSP construction knowledge with ability to read/red-line construction drawings to facilitate new build, relocations and emergency repairs
• Must have working knowledge in all technical aspects of designing OSP fiber and copper plant
• Ability to read and understand maps, drawings and diagrams for project build process
• Underground and Aerial knowledge• Able to work with different departments and both internal and external construction crews
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel and Outlook
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume work environment
• City, county and state requirements or restrictions
Preferred
• Understanding of the National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code
• Ability to become proficient with customer "Host Systems"
• Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
