Basic Function

Located at the La Porte Complex, the Mechanical Engineer is a part of the Reliability engineering Team and will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize various equipment as well as drive processes and product improvements while maintaining a strong safety and environmental compliance focus. D
During a typical day the candidate will apply technical knowledge to analyze causes of long term reliability issues, execute expense projects, provide general assistance trouble shooting day-to-day issues and provide mentorship to less experienced engineers. The position interacts with other technical groups on site (Technical, Maintenance/Outage, and Capital project groups), LYB Global processes , and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve mechanical integrity challenges and improve plant reliability and performance while maintaining a strong safety and environmental compliance focus.

Key Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary fixed and rotating equipment engineering resource for an assigned area
• Supports Maintenance and Operations to resolve technical issues
• Identifies bad actors, performs Root Cause Failure Analysis, and works to eliminate defects and drive equipment improvements.
• Supports Outage activities as needed in planning and/or execution.
• Supports the Capital projects process by submitting Project Initiation Forms, participating in design phase, and following field execution of projects
• Reviews and approves engineered drawings, specifications, design packages, deferrals, deviations from standards/procedures.
• Works closely with Unit Inspectors to troubleshoot complex stationary equipment issues and review Inspection & Testing Plans for piping / equipment repairs or new installations.
• Reviews requests for installation of Leak Repair Devices, such as bolted engineered enclosures, composite wraps, valves body injections, etc.
• Actively participates/leads in area Reliability Improvement Team and supports Reliability P2E Advancing goals
• Leads or participates in incident investigations and manages Intelex action items
• Develops and maintains systems to improve and sustain value in the areas of health, safety, environment, production rates, reliability, cost and quality.
• Assessing pump, bearing, mechanical seal, & compression equipment performance issues, performing equipment condition assessments, reviewing leak sealing device designs, and providing QA/QC requirements for both stationary and machinery equipment.
• Perform in depth investigations to properly identify and eliminate the root cause of incidents, complete and close findings as required

Requirements

• BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 8 years of experience working as a mechanical engineer with both fixed and rotating equipment relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industries
• Strong communication skills-both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated strong independent decision-making skills
• Must have strong computer skills including SAP and Microsoft Office
• Strong knowledge of project management, Reliability engineering and root cause analysis
