What You Will Contribute:

Badger Meter is looking to hire a Level II Manufacturing Engineer focused on automated water meter accuracy testing at our Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI.

This individual will play a key part in Badger Meter's continuous improvement journey by learning, sustaining, and developing water meter accuracy test processes. Badger's automated accuracy testing equipment plays a critical role in ensuring product quality. The main functions of this role are to support existing equipment as well contribute to new product development efforts as the accuracy testing subject matter expert. This role requires regular visits to our various manufacturing sites. Domestic and international travel will be required approximately 200 hours annually.

The ideal candidate will have a penchant for hands on work with both mechanical and electrical products, has exposure to the computer sciences including networking, SQL database, and basic programming languages, experience specifying and troubleshooting industrial control systems, solid foundation in engineering statistics and metrology, basic understanding of fluid dynamics, and possess a strong willingness and ability to learn in a multi-discipline team. Educational degrees of interest include: B.S. Manufacturing Engineering, B.S. Mechanical Engineering, B.S Industrial Engineering, B.S. Electrical Engineering.

Main Job Duties:

  • Assist with sustaining engineering - current product support/issues, customer trouble shooting, validation
  • Contribute as the accuracy testing expert in New Product Development teams
  • Research and integrate safe, reliable and cost effective equipment and processes that assure the production of products at established safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives
  • Support Manufacturing/Production in a timely manner by troubleshooting production issues
  • Identify improvement opportunities and drive to implement effective solutions for these opportunities.
  • Ensure product integrity through the application of statistical process controls, high quality process documentation, and sound engineering principles.
  • Learn and apply basics of project management for accuracy tester based projects so that projects meet cost and timing objectives
  • Initiate and implement engineering change requests
  • Design and perform product and design verification tests
  • Become familiar with the Badger Meter safety policies
  • Create and manage Level III procedures (specific work tasks) and supporting process documents
  • Develop financial analysis and justification of new processes and equipment and initiate capital asset requests for such equipment

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Must be willing to work 50% of the time on the Manufacturing Floor, 50% of time at desk.
  • Demonstrated application of engineering statistics to drive decision making using common statistical software such as Minitab and Excel (Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments, Gage R&R)
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Background with automated manufacturing controls and computer systems
  • Willingness to travel 10%, domestic and international, sometimes on short (1-3 days) notice (typically 2-4 trips to Badger Meter's Mexico Manufacturing site or other vendors)
  • Solid foundation with engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to understand complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
  • Ability to operate in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-discipline team
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and motivation

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Spanish language experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt
  • Metrology experience
