Primary Purpose:

The Employment Specialist is responsible for providing employment assessment, job counseling, job placement, employment-related translation and interpretation services, and case management to eligible clients in the Employment Program of CWS Jersey City. With the goal of self-sufficiency for each individual or family, this position works closely with clients, CWS Employment Specialist, and employers and secure successful job placements.

EssentialDuties:

•Assistsnewlyarrivedrefugeesin all aspectsoffindingemployment.

•Coordinatespre-employmenttraining forclientspertheR&P,RSS andMatch grantguidelines.

•Identifies andestablishespartnershipswithlocalemployers,businessandimmigration organizationstoensurebroademploymentopportunitiesforourclients.

•Providesindividualjobplacementservicestoclients.Developsplanof action(Family Self Sufficiency Plan, or FSSP)and counselsclientsinjobinterviewskills,expected behavioronthejob,and properhygiene.

•Workswithclientstoremove anybarriersto employmentandrealizethe goaloffamilyself- sufficiency.

•Identifiesjob opportunitiessuitableforclients,assistsinfilling outapplications,setsupinterviewswith potentialemployers,accompanies clientstointerviews,providestransportation andfollowsupwithemployers.

•Provides orarrangesforemployment-relatedtranslation andinterpretationforclientswithlimitedEnglish proficiency.

•Updatesclientcasefilesforallemploymentactivities.

•Helpsidentifyothersupportservicesthatmayassistclientsinbecomingself-sufficient,such asELT classes,transportation,immigrationservices,and childcare,andmakes appropriatereferrals.

CommonDuties:

•Advocateson behalfofrefugees,andrefugee-servingvoluntaryagencies.

•Keepinformed aboutrefugee andimmigrantissues,and available servicesto clients,using currentinformationtobetteridentifyandserverefugee clients.

•Attend and participateinall staffmeetings andtraining sessions.

•Performsalldutiesin a culturallyandlinguisticallyappropriatemanner.

•Undertakesotherdutiesasassigned.

• Works varied hours.

Qualifications:

Experience: Abilityandinterestinemploymentplacementactivities.Abilityto provide culturally sensitive counseling and casemanagementisrequired.

Education: High school education with some college experience a plus.

Skills:

  • Language fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Must have superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.

  • Close attention to detail is essential.
Special Requirements:
  • It is required to maintain full COVID Vaccination status and comply with all CDC guidelines.
  • This is a hybrid in-person/ remote position located in Jersey City, NJ.
  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications.
  • A valid driver’s license is also preferred, along with the ability to move furniture and donations. The candidate will be expected to transport clients in their own vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) or accompany clients on public transportation.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
  • This position is primarily in the office and community.
  • During busy times other duties may be assigned.
