The Electrical and Controls Engineer is responsible for leading electrical system maintenance and problem solving efforts. This role will lead continuous improvement projects as well as mentor and coach technicians.

This position is part of the Automation Engineering department and will be located in Lodi, CA. The hours for this position are Wednesday - Sunday, approximately 9 PM - 5:30 AM. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead electrical system Reliability-centered maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, and Condition-based Maintenance programs (Thermal Imaging, Ultrasound, Motor Testing, and Control loops)

  • Develop, own, and leads the execution of critical electrical & control work processes - Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (IT&M) program, Electrical Safety program, and Engineering Feedback to Design (FtD) program for manufacturing automated lines

  • Lead problem-solving efforts and In-depth Failure Analysis (IFA) for controls systems - sensors, PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, servo systems, control drives, motion controllers, MCCs, and P&IDs, etc

  • Function as electrical system Subject Matter Expert - create an electrical and controls training plan for Line Technicians and develops technical troubleshooting standards; OCAPs, OPLs, Job-aides, and SOPs

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Automation Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, and Process Engineering to plan, schedule, and execute projects, process development, engineering study, equipment modifications, and system changes. Reads and interprets technical standards - equipment drawings, schematic diagrams, P&IDs, and circuit diagrams to make proactive maintenance decisions based on findings

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Technology, Mechatronics, or related field with 2+ years, OR Master's degree with 0-2+ years of related engineering experience within the medical device or a regulated industry

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with electro-mechanical equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment

  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience with Servo systems, ControlLogix, Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), and Epson Robots

  • In-depth knowledge of SCADA systems (Ignition/Factory talk), Ladder Logic, Profibus, VB Script, RSLinx, HMIs - configuration, programming, testing, and troubleshooting

  • Experience with Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Minitab and Microsoft Applications - MS-Visio, MS-Power BI, MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-PowerPoint
