The Safety Technician will administer the Company safety program and provides direction for plant compliance. This position is to provide coverage on 3rd shift for all Decatur facilities and be involved in safety audits, safety training, safety inspection and record keeping.

Primary Accountabilities: Primary accountabilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections/audits as necessary to comply with Local, State and Federal regulations
  • Champion safety software systems
  • Track and support the Mueller employee safety suggestion program
  • Maintain safety program to cover material handling devices, cranes, forklifts, belts, slings, ladders, etc.
  • Maintain safety program for shop equipment and tool safeguards such as shields, guards, barriers, alarms, and safe operating conditions of each
  • Maintain program for the proper use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Perform audits of safe work practices and recommend corrective action
  • Monitor, maintain and enforce corporate policies and governmental regulations. Submits reports and recommendations to EHS Supervisor.
  • Support the maintenance and implementation of EHS programs, compliance plans and initiatives.
  • Support the incident analysis process for all incidents and near hits.
  • Conduct, coordinate and track various training to support company programs and compliance.
  • Conduct routine safety and environmental observations to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company EHS policies, procedures and practices.
  • Assist with the data collection to maintain internal and regulatory safety, environmental and sustainability reports.
  • Support EHS programs and compliance schedule for activities such as, (START, risk assessments, ergonomic assessments, JSEA's, PPE assessments, and LOTO procedures) and strategy development initiatives championed by our Corporate Team.
  • Ability to foster behavior based programs and encourages employee involvement.
  • Attend and participate in all EHS corporate meetings and conferences.
