Position Summary:

This role will perform a variety of professional duties aimed at driving environmental, health, safety (EHS) performance through development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, practices, and procedures at the Zoetis manufacturing facility located in Union City, CA. This role may participate on a rotational team that could include evening or weekend hours.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of the site's EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, federal and company requirements.
  • Develops and completes ergonomic assessments and monitors work areas and job tasks; recommends appropriate engineering or work process modifications to prevent employee illness or injury; and provides follow-up assessments and recommendations.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other teams to develop and implement ergonomically acceptable solutions. Educates colleagues in ergonomic concepts related to their tasks or work area.
  • Provides new-hire EHS orientation, refresher training and consultation.
  • Leads the site's Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee and Green Team and proactively drives a positive safety and sustainability culture.
  • Completes safety walks, environmental inspections, and other related evaluations, as needed.
  • Participates on injury/illness investigations and identifies root cause and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Develops EHS notices, postings, newsletter, and other communications, as requested.
  • Manages the site's waste management room. Arranges and coordinate waste disposal contractors and services. Executes waste manifests and other related documents.
  • Prepares reports and collects metrics and other data to communicate EHS performance status.
  • Maintains records as required by Cal OSHA, EPA, GMP, FDA and company's policies.
  • Leads the site's pre-shift workplace stretching program. Revises program, as needed
Organizational Relationships

This role will report to the site's EHS Manager and will interact with Operations, R&D, Facilities, Engineering, Quality, Distribution, and office operations including working with all levels of the organization and be visible in the operational areas to support a safe and compliant work environment.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in environment, safety, occupational health, ergonomics, engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 to 7 years of direct, full-time experience.
  • Strong ergonomics background and experience working in a pharmaceutical or chemical industry is preferred.

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of federal and California safety and environmental regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of ergonomic design and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer capabilities including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently, easily make decisions, and handle emergency situations.
