Detailed Position Information
The Educational Psychology Program at the University of Alabama invites applications for an assistant professor position to expand its Educational Neuroscience Initiative. We seek a scientist with an interdisciplinary background whose research focuses on understanding neural mechanisms of learning and cognition, and educational implications of neuroscience research. Candidates conducting translational neuroimaging research on reading/literacy and/or language processing, development, and disorders will receive special consideration. The ideal candidate is able to integrate developmental, neural, evolutionary and cognitive approaches to construct multi-level theories of learning and cognition, and can conduct experimental and learning design studies to validate these theories.
The Educational Neuroscience Initiative at the University of Alabama involves an Educational Neuroscience PhD Concentration and a BSc Program (http://edneuro.ua.edu), under the Educational Psychology Program. We have several active labs engaged in educational neuroscience research. These labs bring together researchers from a wide range of disciplines. Our labs are equipped with state of the art EEG, fNIRS, tDCS, eye-tracking and virtual reality systems. The University of Alabama also houses a new MRI research facility (https://research.ua.edu/institutes-centers/alri/mri/) with a 3T Siemens' Prisma MRI scanner. The University of Alabama has an active community of researchers conducting a wide array of brain, learning, and cognition research. The University supports and encourages interdisciplinary research and collaboration both within the campus and across other institutions.

Responsibilities
* Maintain an independent research program leading to publication
* Teach courses in educational psychology/educational neuroscience
* Seek significant external funding
* Participate in the Educational Psychology Program initiatives, faculty decisions, and advising
* Provide consultation to faculty and mentoring to students.
* Serve on dissertation committees

Minimum Qualifications
* Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., neuroscience, education, psychology, human development, cognitive science, learning sciences, computer science)
* Evidence of expertise in one or more neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG/ERP, fMRI, fNIRS, MEG)
* Interests in translational science and educational applications
* Ability to work with students and faculty in a variety of disciplines
* Strong writing and communication skills
* Commitment to working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications
* Active research program on reading and/or language development, processing, and disorders * Expertise in (f)MRI research methods * Demonstrated general knowledge and experience in teaching cognitive and educational neuroscience, learning sciences, and/or educational psychology * Previous experience or research plan focusing on translational research. * Currently active extramural grant(s) and/or successful history of grant acquisition.
