JOB SUMMARY

The ECMO Program Coordinator RN is responsible for the activities surrounding the operations of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program on a 24 hour basis. This includes leadership and direction of personal with the coordination of ancillary departments. The coordinator will participate in the assessment of staff and program performance. The Coordinator will be a liaison between ECMO specialists, Nursing, Department Managers and Directors, Physicians and Hospital Administration

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Oversees ECMO program development, coordinates and supervises the daily operations of the ECMO program.
Develops, maintains and updates all policies and procedures and clinical standards of care.
Develops, coordinates, and implements an educational program for ECMO Specialists including; certification training, routine in-services, re-certification (yearly or routine), and competency training.
Develops, collects and ensures ECMO specialist competencies and/or certification records.
Develops, performs and maintains quality initiatives to audit outcomes and patient follow-up.
Develops, maintains and participates in staff availability for 24 hour coverage.
Obtains and manages all designated ECMO program equipment and supplies.
Participates in ECMO program education, outreach, and research activities.
Maintains knowledge and participates in current research related to ECMO.
Accumulates, edits and submits data to the ELSO for databank entry.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Advanced understanding of Health Care modalities, therapies, terminology, standards, medications and equipment.
Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
Must have proficient critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly both orally and in writing.
Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
Ability to effectively use a variety of teaching methods.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - Associate's

- MAJOR - Nursing

- EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
       ACLS (ACLS)

       Basic Life Support (BLS)

       Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT): Must have an RCP license through the state of Texas and RRT or be Licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
