Compensation: $17.50/hour

The Domestic Violence Advocate provides support, intervention, and advocacy services in the civil court justice systems for victims of domestic and intimate partner violence. The Domestic Violence Advocate actively participates with interventions/education and advocacy along with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department (JCSD) staff to support individual victim efforts with filing orders of protection and other requests. This role will be developed and maintained to assure a coordinated community response to domestic violence by building and maintaining relationships with key personnel in law enforcement, the justice system, courthouse personnel, and other service providers.

This is a Full-time, benefit eligible position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - JOB SPECIFIC

* Provides education, direct support, to individual victims when referred by JCSD regarding filing out reports and filing orders/seeking legal support; dynamics of domestic violence; safety planning, the Adult Abuse Act, Orders of Protection, court and law enforcement procedures, and other information needed to access the justice system
* Accurately record statistics in a shared resource folder and collaborate with the Resident/Volunteer Coordinator to maintain and submit timely statistics for reporting
* Establishes and maintains a collaborative and cooperative relationship with court personnel, law enforcement, prosecution, victim assistance and legal representation programs, to resolve frustrations, conflicts and other barriers to victims' access to the justice system
* Assumes, when necessary and only at the direction of the victim, the role of liaison with civil and criminal justice system personnel, keeping the victim fully informed of possible consequences and outcomes
* Assists, at the victim's request, with follow-up advocacy with victim themselves, court and law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, probation and parole personnel, juvenile authorities and the victim's attorney
* Provides necessary information and referrals to other agencies (law enforcement and otherwise) and resources to support safety
* Provides in-service training for staff and keeps them apprised of legal issues, changes and developments in court procedures, and aspects of the civil and criminal justice system that effect victims of domestic violence
* Assist with writing and gathering information for the narrative portion of grants, to include the VOCA grant
* Attend A Safe Place and Division Staff Meetings. Attend other trainings related to staff position as assigned and/or mandated
* Meet for supervision monthly with supervisor
* Participate in Shelter fundraisers and special projects
* Cooperate with the Director and Victim Services Coordinator/Sex Offender Registration position to coordinate a hybrid work schedule to provide services at both locations.
* Others duties as assigned



High School/GED required

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Basic Knowledge of charting, filling, computers, and Microsoft Office required
  • Knowledge of Domestic and Sexual Violence preferred

QUALIFICATION(S): LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Valid Class E Missouri driver's license required
