Overview

AmTrust Financial is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Underwriting Director for our California office to manage and lead a group of Underwriters, specializing in Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, Property and General Liability. The Underwriting Director will ensure corporate underwriting standards are followed. This position will report to the Vice President of Underwriting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and coaching to other underwriters and provide team leadership
  • Determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines and standards
  • Manage the selection and denial of new and/or renewal business including management of pricing targets, renewal retention targets and profitability targets
  • Monitor underwriting decisions through regular audits and address issues as appropriate individually or through group training
  • Develop, maintain and collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business related needs
  • Focus on producer relations including portfolio management by developing and implementing action plans as deemed appropriate
  • Manage and monitor all stages of underwriting execution
  • Create and distribute management reports detailing various functions and status on a monthly basis
  • Ensure the office is properly staffed with qualified underwrites.
  • Meet with key clients.


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of monoline workers compensation and/or multi-line underwriting experience strong in workers compensation
  • 5 - 10+ years of management/leadership experience, resulting in effective management and leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and risk assessment ability
  • Superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
  • Deep knowledge of all Microsoft applications and strong Word, Excel and Power Point skills
  • Ability to download data and perform analytics
  • Ability to be highly productive in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
